January Sixteen – Here For You

Here For You” is the latest song by January Sixteen, a Glasgow-based group. It’s their first single this year and comes as an appropriate follow-up to “Let This Christmas Be Mine,” “Never Too Late,” “January Sixteen, “End Of The Line,” “Further Education,” and “Rats,” excellent singles and EPs released last year. Soundwise, January Sixteen return to their sound, which they established with the debut single “Rats.” Perhaps alternative rock comes to mind first, but you’ll undoubtedly stumble upon some of the finest properties borrowed from grunge, nineties rock, hard rock, indie rock, etc. The group uses these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift their composition on an entirely new level, while simultaneously remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these combinations with different but complementary styles resulted in a magnificent track that will appeal to even the pickiest alternative rock fans.

As soon as you press play, you’ll immediately notice how January Sixteen gradually build a rich and luxurious ambiance by carefully adding more layers over the primary base. The song commences with a catchy, hypnotic, tastefully assembled basslines and heavy beats that immediately resemble early nineties grunge and alternative rock sound. You’ll also hear how guitars jump in with profoundly melodic, semi-distorted chord progressions, making the verses even more catchy. These instrumentations play a significant role throughout the entire song, keeping it calm, soothing, relaxing, and ethereal as much as possible until the chorus kicks in. In the meantime, the outstanding vocal performance guides the listeners by offering the perfect balance between low, mid, and high notes from scratch to finish. These vocal harmonies emphasize every segment and instrumentation but also contribute to the complexity of the song.

January Sixteen shine during the choruses, where the entire band bursts with sheer aggression and power by delivering heavily distorted riffs, even more intricate low-end notes, and an outstanding drumming performance based upon well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. “Here For You” becomes even more complex with every upcoming segment, where the skillful guitar player gradually adds more leads, themes, melodies, and harmonies. Of course, this song wouldn’t sound this powerful without an exceptional rhythm section, which contributes heaviness, depth, clarity, and dynamics from beginning to end.

January Sixteen thought about everything while assembling their latest composition. The combination of calm verses and powerful choruses sounds divine, and they nailed that highly recognizable early nineties alternative rock and grunge sound. You should put this track on your radar because January Sixteen invested brilliant ideas and musicianship into it, and their efforts resulted in one of the best songs you’ll hear this year. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
