Evol Walks – Pet Sematary

Pet Sematary” is a new single by Evol Walks, a solo project of Leah Martin-Brown, an Australian singer-songwriter. It’s a Ramones cover song from their 1989 album Brain Drain. The song, originally written for the Stephen King 1989 movie adaptation of the same name, became one of the Ramones’ greatest radio hits and was a staple of their shows during the nineties. It’s also good to mention this cover song is a second single from Evol Walks‘ upcoming acoustic extended play. Evol Walks is known for her powerful modern rock sound, fully stacked with alternative, hard rock, grunge, and indie elements. However, her rendition of “Pet Sematary” showcases a much softer side, where her singer-songwriter approach meets some of the finest properties borrowed from different but complementary music genres like goth rock, indie folk, folk rock, and acoustic rock.

As soon as you press play, you’ll immediately notice how her outstanding vocal performance reigns supreme, with all the perfectly balanced low, mid, and high notes emphasizing all the segments and instrumentations. She perfectly applied vocal harmonies in each part of the song, making her version of “Pet Sematary” a pleasant listening experience worth repeating over and over again. The flawlessly recorded acoustic guitars resonate with mesmerizing arpeggiated and regular chord progressions, serving as a perfect backdrop for Evol Walks’ marvelous vocal performance. You’ll also notice some accentuations, nuances, and details performed on electric guitars, but these are just some enhancements and decorations that uplift particular segments. The artist also included some string instruments that especially shine during the choruses, while the violin solo makes this rendition even more ear-appealing.

Evol Walks decided to leave the original arrangements intact, but she thoroughly planned all the vocal articulations and instruments, so her version unquestionably sounds more detailed than the original. Her rendition resonates with more goth vibes, which suit the themes explored through lyrics much more than the original track. Perhaps she pays homage to the Ramones, Steven King, the book, and the movie in the best possible way, but she also showcases all her experience, knowledge, skills, talent, ideas, and musicianship. Her vocal and instrumental performance will convince you to place her version of “Pet Sematary” on your playlist, and revisit her previous works. You should put Evol Walks on your radar because her talent goes beyond comprehension many times throughout the entire track. The single is available on all streaming services. Don’t miss it!
