Gunning For Allie – Alive

Gunning For Allie, an outstanding Australian synth pop duo consisting of Joshua Mulheran and James Waters, has recently released a new single called “Alive.” It’s a meaningful, emotive number referencing the passing of lead singer Josh’s best friend Courtney, as heard on tracks like “Braille” and “Paper Hearts.” “Alive” follows the footsteps of the mentioned songs. Still, it also showcases many innovations in songwriting, composing, arranging, recording, and producing. Soundwise, perhaps Gunning For Allie carries all the fundamental elements of an synth pop sound, but you’ll notice how other complementary music genres found their way into this sonic equation. Therefore, don’t be surprised if you stumble upon some of the finest properties borrowed from pop-punk, alternative, synth-rock, synthwave, indie rock and indie-pop. You’ll hear how Gunning For Allie used these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details that unquestionably uplift this number on an entirely new level, while the duo remains loyal to the primary sonic direction. These experimentations with various styles resulted in a mesmerizing composition that will appeal to all synth pop fans and beyond.

You’ll notice how synths still play a main role in Gunning For Allie’s sound. The layers of synth leads, themes, melodies, and harmonies work flawlessly together in shaping such a rich and luxurious ambiance. These soundscapes also serve as a perfect backdrop for an outstanding vocal performance that perfectly balances between low, mid, and high notes, emphasizing everything Gunning For Allie tried to achieve with this song. They also thought about other instrumentations, so you’ll notice how heavily distorted chord progressions and riffs support all those synth maneuvers. Of course, this song wouldn’t sound so powerful without equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines that offer more than necessary heaviness, depth, and clarity. Gunning For Allie thought about the rhythm section too, so you’ll hear how outstanding drumming performance based upon dynamic, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics provides groove and pace but also keeps the remainder of the orchestrations in line.

Gunning For Allie thoroughly planned the entire song structure, and you’ll hear how every segment comes with so many layers of flawlessly recorded instrumentations. Their latest single carries some eighties nostalgia, but “Alive” is undoubtedly a modern synth-pop song with many qualities borrowed from complementary music genres. Gunning For Allie invested all their experience, knowledge, skills, talent, and ideas into it, and their effort resulted in a catchy, meaningful, mesmerizing song that will appeal to anyone who appreciates top-notch music. You should check out “Alive” as soon as possible because it will become one of your favorite tracks this year. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
