Mike Vennis & Different Place – Small Town Vampire

Small Town Vampire” is a brand new single by Mark Vennis & Different Place, a Petersfield-based band. It’s a song inspired by bands like The Clash, The Jam, and Blur. Soundwise, “Small Town Vampire” combines the fundamentals of classic punk rock with some of the finest sonic ingredients borrowed from classic rock, rock ‘n’ roll, indie rock, and new wave. These experimentations with complementary music genres resulted in a magnificent punk rock song that covers several significant eras of great music, such as the seventies, eighties, and nineties. Still, “Small Town Vampire” sounds modern, fresh, and unique because these experienced musicians invested many brilliant ideas and sonic maneuvers into their latest song.

Every band member plays a significant role in this fine piece of sonic artistry. The semi-distorted chord progressions and riffs define the melodic ambiance, while the subtle keyboard leads decorate and uplift it on an entirely new level. You’ll notice how guitars gradually become even more progressive as you dive deep into the intricate verses. The guitars duel throughout the entire track, but the exceptional verses vividly showcase their creativity. Of course, this composition wouldn’t sound so powerful without the equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines, which unquestionably provide more heaviness, clarity, and depth to the song. The outstanding drumming performance makes things even more interesting with cleverly assembled, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. It’s also good to mention that the rhythm section not only offers groove and pace but also keeps the remainder of the orchestration in line.

Still, Mark Vennis and his exceptional vocal performance steal the show here. His flawless vocal harmonies based upon melodic clean singing and shouts perfectly emphasize all the instrumentation by balancing between low, mid, and high notes. His voice also serves as another layer of melodies over the top, further decorating everything the remainder of the band tried to achieve with this song. Mark Vennis & Different Place undoubtedly thought about even the tiniest details while assembling this marvelous song, and their effort resulted in a track that will appeal to longtime punk rock fans, and even those newbies to the genre. The irresistible combination of classic punk rock, rock ‘n’ roll, new wave, and power pop makes the difference, and positions this number among the top punk rock songs this year. The single is available on all streaming services. Don’t miss it!
