Slightest Clue – Suit Uptight!

Suit Uptight!” is a recently released track by Vancouver-based group Slightest Clue. It’s their second single this year that not only serves as an adequate follow-up to “Zipper,” their single released earlier this year but also as a proper continuation of their earlier works. Soundwise, Slightest Clue nurtures a fresh and unique sound based upon the fundamentals of post-punk, but you’ll also notice how some elements borrowed from other complementary music genres like contemporary alternative, indie, and dark pop found their way into this sonic equation. These experimentations with different styles resulted in a refreshing sound that will appeal to die-hard fans and newbies to these music genres.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice that Slightest Clue don’t joke around with their sound. The guitars shine with generous servings of distortion, creating a raw, abrasive, fuzzy ambiance. The cleverly assembled chord progressions and riffs follow all the rules of post-punk and art rock sound but also pay homage to contemporary alternative and indie rock music. These elements are vividly hearable during the choruses where the band bursts with sheer aggression, heaviness, energy, and power. Still, there is more than enough space for melody, and Slightest Clue are such pros at stacking layers of themes and leads into their songs. These sonic maneuvers are especially hearable as the song approaches the end.

Of course, the rhythm section also plays its role here. You’ll notice how equally complex, vividly hearable, wisely constructed, semi-distorted basslines offer even more heaviness, clarity, and depth, while the outstanding drumming performance based upon moderate, robust, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics contribute to the dynamics, groove, and pace. Slightest Clue thought about everything while writing, composing, recording, and producing their latest single, and their effort is notable from scratch to finish. They poured experience, creativity, talent, and ideas, and it resulted in a magnificent composition worth repeating over and over again.

Slightest Clue stands out from the remainder of the contemporary scene because of their irresistible mixture of post-punk, alternative, and indie sounds otherworldly. The way they mix up all these crucial elements makes them one of the most innovative, creative, and unique bands out there, and “Suit Uptight!” exemplifies their commitment to the craft. You should put their latest single on your radar as soon as possible. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
