Abermals released their highly anticipated full-length album, “Reasons To Travel,” in September last year, marking their collaboration with Engineer Records (UK), Memento Records (Germany), Sell The Heart (USA), and Runaway (Spain). It’s also an appropriate follow-up to their self-released EP, “These Broken Bodies,” which garnered critical acclaim in 2021. These experienced musicians showcase their unique blend of musical influences, resulting in a compelling fusion of kraut rock and indie punk. The band members draw from their extensive history in various projects and expose a level of musical exuberance that defies their age. Their musical style carries hints of post-hardcore alongside other eclectic elements that seamlessly fit into their overall sound.

The album commences with a profoundly melodic track titled “You,” immediately grabbing the listener’s attention with its frenetic basslines, moderate rhythmic sequences, and intricate guitar maneuvers. The band’s raw energy is palpable, creating an infectious atmosphere that persists throughout the entire record. One of the standout aspects of “Reasons To Travel” is Abermals’ ability to seamlessly transition between different musical styles within a single song. Tracks such as “Amadeus” demonstrate their knack for incorporating unexpected tempo changes and shifts in dynamics. It keeps the listener engaged and unsure of what to expect next, making it an exciting and unpredictable listening experience.

The album’s production quality is another detail worth mentioning, with each instrument and vocal line being skillfully mixed and balanced. This attention to detail allows the nuances of Abermals’ music to shine through, enhancing the overall impact of each song. The catchy melodies and thought-provoking lyrics are complemented by the pristine production, resulting in a sonic tapestry that resonates with the listener on multiple levels. Lyrically, Abermals explores themes of self-discovery, personal growth, and the universal desire to escape from the monotony of everyday life. Many songs on this material delve into introspection and self-reflection, inviting the listener to ponder their experiences and motivations. The band’s poetic lyricism adds more depth to their music, providing a meaningful connection between the listener and the emotional core of each track. One of the album’s most memorable moments comes in the form of the track “The End.” Here, Abermals showcases their ability to craft anthemic choruses that are sure to resonate with the audience. The combination of infectious melodies, impassioned vocals, and driving instrumentation creates an irresistible energy that will have listeners singing along in no time.
