CRIM – Cançons de Mort LP (Pirates Press Records)

Catalan punk band CRIM has once again proven their musical abilities with their latest album Cançons de Mort. The band’s dark brand of punk rock, sung in a native Spanish language, gathers attention due to its melody, intensity, and dynamics. The ominous imagery used by CRIM, from its logo to the lavishly executed artwork on its releases, is a testament to its unflinching approach to portraying the darker side of life. Despite the language barrier, CRIM’s music carries listeners to a world where they embrace the inevitable end of things. The title track, Cançons de Mort, speaks volumes about the band’s approach to life and death. It’s not just an album about a mortality but also the ultimate collapse of society.

The brilliance of CRIM’s music lies in their ability to showcase the resilience and self-sufficiency of the human spirit. The song such as Vam Riure Tant serves as an anthem to remind people that they have the power to rely on themselves, not the police or any other authority. These universal themes provide a glimmer of hope and solace amidst the bleakness and strife of everyday life. The band’s trademark hard-hitting, abrasive streetpunk sound is on full display throughout Cançons de Mort. The album is a testament to the group’s musical prowess and their ability to create a sound that speaks loud and clear, crossing borders and language barriers. The album is a cohesive work of art that showcases the band’s incredible songwriting abilities and musicianship.

The album kicks off with Vaig Sense Mans. The intro carries classic, anthemic, driving punk rock leads and riffs that set the tone for the rest of the album. From there, the band takes you on a rollercoaster ride that is both exhilarating and thought-provoking. The album’s standout tracks are Vam Riure Tant and Estui de Merda. Vam Riure Tant is an unapologetic punk rock anthem that encourages listeners to take control of their lives and stand up against the oppressive system. The song’s infectious chorus will have you singing along in no time. Estui de Merda, on the other hand, is a slower, more introspective track that showcases the band’s softer, melodic, harmonious side. The lyrics are poignant, and the melody is hauntingly beautiful. Of course, the remainder of the record sounds good as well, and after a couple of introducing songs, you’ll realize this album has no weak spots.

The instrumentation on the album is top-notch. The guitar work is melodic, energetic, and furious, and the bass and drums provide a solid foundation for the songs. The production is clean and polished, allowing each element of the music to shine through. In conclusion, Cançons de Mort is a brilliant album by a band that is at the top of its game. The album showcases CRIM’s ability to craft riveting songs that are both intense and thought-provoking. The band’s powerful and uncompromising approach to punk rock is a refreshing change of pace in today’s musical landscape. Cançons de Mort is a must-listen for anyone who appreciates great punk rock music.
