Shockpowder – Flutter

After a mindblowing number of singles released since 2018, Blossom EP, and a debut full-length album called The Final Thoughts Of Gaia, Aylesbury-based artist Shockpowder released another exceptional composition that will unquestionably appeal to all the fans of calm, soothing, cathartic music. Flutter is the fourteenth number in a row from the series of singles launched in 2018 and the tenth single this year. It continues in the same vein as Shockpowder‘s previous works, but it also showcases some sound innovations. For those unfamiliar with this highly prolific and creative artist, Shockpowder nurtures such a unique sound based on the fundamentals of shoegaze. However, you may stumble upon some other ingredients along the way. His tunes carry some of the finest properties of dream pop, grunge, alternative, post-rock, post-metal, and stoner, but don’t be surprised if you stumble upon some other qualities while checking out his discography.

Flutter carries a slightly psychedelic ambiance achieved by thoughtfully assembled chord progressions and generous servings of reverb, echo, and delay effects. These effects unquestionably uplift the song on an entirely new level, but let’s not forget the abrasive, raw, heavy riffs that serve as a perfect contrast to the calmness of this song. Shockpowder’s soothing voice also works to the advantage of the psychedelic atmosphere, and I couldn’t think of any other singing technic that would fit this well with the aesthetics of the track. The artist also thought about the rhythm section, so you’ll hear all the warm-sounding basslines punching beneath the guitar layer. The profoundly dynamic rhythmic sequences, accentuations, fills, and other percussive acrobatics are mainly responsible for keeping the remainder of the instrumentations in line. Like other involved instruments, Shockpowder paid a lot of attention while assembling it. Each layer perfectly fits in this sonic equation, and there’s no doubt you’ll enjoy Flutter from scratch to finish. It’s another brilliant track by a creative shoegaze artist that you need to hear to comprehend its true brilliance. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
