Glacier Veins – The World You Want To See CD (Rude Records)

This release recently arrived at our headquarters, and after doing some research, I realized this album is a couple of years old. Therefore, I am a bit late to the party with this one but better late than ever. It’s been a while since I wanted to check out Glacier Veins, but other bands always got in the way. I heard so many good things about them, but due to the nature of my work, new music releases always had a top priority. Luckily enough, I got the chance to write something about their debut named The World You Want To See, so let’s dive into this material.

The World You Want To See contains ten outstanding compositions that defy any categorization into a singular music genre. Many things are going on in their music, and the band combined everything into a colossal slab of harmonious noise, so perhaps post-hardcore comes to mind first. However, there’s more than meets the eye, and Glacier Veins incorporated some additional elements to enhance and decorate particular segments or entire songs. You’ll undoubtedly notice some of the finest properties of pop-punk, skate rock, shoegaze, dream pop, grunge, alternative, emo, and indie rock lurking around in the mix. Still, don’t be surprised if you stumble upon some other elements because The World You Want To See bursts with so many melodies, harmonies, themes, ambiances, and other sonic delicacies that define all the best post-hardcore albums. The band even developed the name to express their sound, so perhaps dreampunk is even more accurate than post-hardcore, but I will leave it up to you to decide.

Even after the first listen, The World You Want To See sounds like something you’ve heard before, but there’s a catch, they don’t sound like any other band. This album provides a healthy dosage of nostalgia, but you’ll have a hard time comparing Glacier Veins’ music with some renowned music releases that might fit the category. Each involved instrument bursts with sheer power, and you’ll be blown away by the vocal abilities of the lead singer. Her singing technic is truly something special, and it uplifts these compositions to an entirely new level. Each theme, melody, harmony, chord progression, and riff perfectly pairs with vividly hearable basslines and immensely dynamic rhythmic sequences. Every track possesses so many good moments it’s nearly impossible to grasp them all. The World You Want To See demands your utmost attention, and don’t wait up on this one if you’re into harmonious, dynamic, divine punk rock music. Head to Rude Records for more information about ordering.
