Washington DC-based alt-indie rockers Flowerbomb released their debut music video for the track, “sorry.” One of three singles released in 2020, “sorry” became the second track on pretty dark, Flowerbomb’s first full-length album released in 2021.
pretty dark was met with consistent critical acclaim for its eclectic mix of indie edge, hook-laden jangle, droning pop rhythms, and a healthy dose of shoegaze vibe serving as a canvas for the raw, inward analysis of frontwoman singer-songwriter Rachel Kline. MusicianShip recognized Flowerbomb with two 2021 WAMMIE Awards: Best Rock Album for pretty dark and Best Rock Song for the track ”II.”
“sorry” is about living through the aftermath of trauma,” says Kline. “Feeling each day is the same, and not wanting to go through the motions of another monotonous day. But, it’s more self-satire than intending to bring the listener down with me; we all wrestle with versions of mildly existential questions like ‘Is it the world around me, or is it just me?’”
pretty dark was recorded at the legendary Bias Studios by Mutineer Records founder Mark Reiter. The video was directed by DC-based cinematographer Mitchel Worley.
“Mitchel did an amazing job helping us visually interpret “sorry.” I used much of pretty dark to offer statements on gender dynamics, and while “sorry” does the same, it is intentionally more universal and lighthearted in its message, melody, and pop sensibilities.”
