Anxious Share A New Single

Anxious recently announced their debut full-length, Little Green House, due out January 21st from Run For Cover Records, and today the Connecticut-based up-and-comers are back with another new single from the record, “Growing Up Song.” 

Anxious have been steadily gaining momentum with their seamless combination of hardcore grit, classic emo dynamism, and ’90s alternative hooks, and on Little Green House the promising young five-piece have taken a massive leap forward with that sound. “Growing Up Song” follows “In April” and “Call From You” (which drew praise from the likes of Stereogum, Revolver Magazine, FLOOD Magazine, BrooklynVegan, Uproxx, and more) and highlights the band’s knack for combining bright melodies with raw emotion. The track’s accompanying music video takes a more comic approach, depicting the band members rapidly aging due to a magic toy house.  

Guitarist Dante Melucci discussed the new song saying: “‘Growing Up Song’ is about how I cope with people close to me changing as we’ve become young adults. It’s scary to me when I start to feel like I don’t understand someone I care about anymore, and as easy it is for me to blame them for not being who I thought they were, I’m changing all the time too, and that’s okay.”

Formed in 2016 while the members (vocalist Grady Allen, guitarists Melucci and Ryan Savitski, bassist Sam Allen, and drummer Jonny Camner) were still in high school, Anxious’ were indebted to the freneticism and heart-on-sleeve lyrics of post-hardcore acts like Texas Is The Reason, Samiam, and Turning Point, allowing the band to immediately grab the attention of the hardcore and emo scenes alike. The band continued to grow through a run of impressive EPs, made-to-order zines, and shows with the likes of Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, Lifetime, Fiddlehead, and more–all leading to a massive leap forward with Little Green House. Recorded by Chris Teti at Silver Bullet Studios, the album bursts from the speakers with an undeniable urgency as the band careens turns on a dime from aggression to melody. All while Allen’s lyrics explore coming-of-age, parental divorce, the inevitability of change, and more, with a sense of empathy and measured perspective.
