Stonetree are coming back with another brilliant material that will appeal to all the admirers of an alternative rock sound. Stonetree are not strangers to these pages, and I previously had an opportunity to write an article about the first edition of Void Fill. These Austrian rockers decided to send me their latest recording, which serves as a continuation of the Void Fill. Just like a preceding material, Void Fill also contains four profoundly detailed alternative rock compositions that will knock your socks off. As soon as you grab this CD in your hands, you’ll notice a meaningful visual identity that carries a weird creature stuck between tree, wolf, and human during metamorphosis. The group follows nearly identical visual aesthetics like on their first edition of Void Fill and this imagery perfectly suits their music.

It seems that Void Fill 2 carries slightly different aesthetics than its predecessor. Stonetree sounds heavier than on their previous recordings, but they still explore several genres like before. With great assurance, I can say Stonetree reached the peak of the contemporary alternative rock scene with this material. Besides alternative rock, you may notice some other elements that decorated their music on previous recordings. You can vividly hear various ingredients stacked in decent amounts, such as southern rock, stoner, sludge, grunge, doom rock, and hard rock. Perhaps these genres were hearable in their compositions before, but for some weird reason, these elements resonate with so much power. Stonetree is one of those bands that evolves, progresses, and continuously upgrades the sound to highlight particular segments even more.

The compositions enclosed within Void Fill 2 may or may not sound similar to its predecessor, but that is due to their devotion to the beforementioned genres. Stonetree maybe follow these aesthetics, but their music showcases quite the contrary. You’ll be blown away by enormously catchy melodies and harmonies, robust riffages, crushing segments, and perfectly executed rhythmic maneuvers. The guitars are carrying so much force, and with the addition of the massive low-end tones, these three instruments are delivering nothing but sheer power. However, these intense segments are simultaneously intervening with calmy melodies and harmonies. Lead guitar and lead vocals are mainly responsible for generous servings of melodies, harmonies, and other polyphonic delicacies. Equally mindblowing drumming performance goes hand in hand with various technicalities delivered by the abovementioned instruments. The drums hold all these maneuvers/acrobatics altogether but also leave enough room for series of accentuations.

Stonetree takes the best affinities of both worlds, so you’ll solely enjoy these four profoundly detailed alternative rock numbers. However, this material will be right up your alley even if you’re not entirely into alternative rock but in search of some southern rock, stoner, sludge, grunge, doom rock, or hard rock music. Head over to Stonetree Bandcamp page for more information about ordering this CD.
