Daisy Vision – Terrascope

I listened to loads of outstanding artists since I started writing about music sixteen years ago, but I rarely stumbled upon artists like this. Daisy Vision is unquestionably one of a kind in the vast sea of musicians, who pops out from the crowd with unique ideas and an uncharacteristic approach to music. Daisy Vision is a solo project of Julian Bannon, a piano player who decided to write, compose, produce the entire album with the help of Ken Topham and William Boilard (both contributed with percussions). Being an experienced piano player for over 27 years, Julian had more than enough knowledge and ideas to compile fourteen delicate compositions. However, these compositions are going way beyond traditional articulations you stumbled upon before. There’s something about this material that forces you to lay back, relax and enjoy these profoundly detailed tunes.

Terrascope carries a certain cathartic ambiance that will undoubtfully appeal to the admirers of profoundly detailed instrumental music. Daisy Vision explores several musical genres through thoroughly planned segments, sequences, moments, accentuations, and articulations so you can expect complex orchestrations. The artist nicely paired these orchestrations with calmful vibes, which are unquestionably present from scratch to finish. Comparing to the other contemporaries, Daisy Vision sounds and appears unmatchable, mainly because of this overwhelming calmness that suits the listening apparatus. Perhaps this project explores genres such as post-rock and shoegaze, but the way Daisy Vision articulates makes it sophisticated, unique, and listenable even after repetitious listenings. Besides the dominant presence of post-rock and shoegaze, you may stumble upon some elements of cinematic music, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, psychedelic pop, dream pop, ambient, electronica, and other genres that complement the base of Daisy Vision.

Perhaps this album is entirely produced over the midi controller and additional percussions, but you won’t get that feeling while listening to this masterpiece. This material contains retro seventies cinematic vibe, possibly because of the heavy dosages of progressiveness and psychedelia. Somehow these two aspects are dominating during the entire material, but you may also hear how the currently popular genres like post-rock, shoegaze, and dream pop are floating around. Daisy Vision levitates between retro ambiances, harmonies, melodies but somehow always manages to get back to modern music through various accentuations and articulations. Terrascope is undoubtfully one-of-a-kind material that deserves your attention if you’re into intelligently performed instrumental music.
