The Carolyn – This Will Begin To Make Things Right LP (59 X Records)

For some weird reason, I always thought this blog is lacking more reviews about bands like these. There’s something about the mixture of alternative rock, melodic punk rock, and pop-punk that appeals to the ears of nearly every admirer of punk rock music. The sound is maybe subtler and mellower than regular melodic punk rock, but because of these characteristics, it gives you a perfect soundtrack in times when you need peace and relaxation. This Will Begin To Make Things Right by The Carolyn is one of those recordings I instantly fell in low with, mainly because of their bright ideas, outstanding musicianship, and the overall sound I was talking about since the beginning of this review. This material represents their debut full-length material. Previously, The Carolyn released a couple of singles, such as Heavy Eyes, AM, Heartsunk, and the Keepsake EP, including five beautiful compositions. The group currently promotes their latest single named Twelve Gauge, which is available on all streaming services today, so definitely give it a listen.

This Will Begin To Make Things Right carries eleven beautiful punk rock tunes, entirely stacked with outstanding ideas and catchy arrangements. The musicians involved in The Carolyn fully understand all the necessities that this genre demands. These guys thoroughly planned each maneuver on their debut, and right with the initial beats of this recording, you can notice their brilliant songwriting, composing, and arranging abilities. The Carolyn nurtures such a specific sound, similar to the ambiance you can hear in the music released by renowned bands, such as The Menzingers, The Lawrence Arms, Alkaline Trio, The Gaslight Anthem, Joyce Manor, Ways Away, and Against Me! However, This Will Begin To Make Things Right resonates in such a sophisticated manner that appeals to the listening apparatus more than the decent portion of the music recorded by the abovementioned groups. Everything about their articulations encapsulated on this material seems reasonable and appropriate.

The Carolyn solely relies upon subtle chord progressions, arpeggiated segments, beautiful harmonies, polyphonic thematics, and other sonic delicacies emitted through nearly echoic-sounding guitars. These technicalities are bursting with an almost melancholic, harmonious, cathartic atmosphere that provides countless listening pleasures during the entire album. Robust low-end tones are punching from beneath and offering more than necessary support to these guitar maneuvers. Very detailed basslines are also fulfilling the gaps between guitars and excellent rhythmic section. The drumming performance offers loads of dynamics through delicate rhythmic segments, accentuations, and fills. Continuous splashing over the cymbals surrenders a tiny layer of noise that goes perfectly with the abovementioned melodies. The Carolyn showcases tremendous musicianship from scratch to finish, and you will immediately fall in love with this album if you’re into nearly melancholic punk rock music with smaller chunks of alternative rock lurking around. This Will Begin To Make Things Right unquestionably seeks your attention but do not forget Twelve Gauge, their latest single, which is out today at all streaming services. This beautiful recording comes on a vinyl record, and it is available directly from the band or 59 X Records.
