Heavybird – Pine Trees & The Faint Sound Of Buzzing

It’s nearly mindblowing how the groups are literally popping out of nowhere on a regular basis. A lot of musicians are using pandemic and quarantine to collaborate with fellow colleagues, so you can stumble upon so much impressive music that will easily end up on your playlist. Besides bands, there are a lot of artists who decided to work on their own and create everything by themselves from scratch. Heavybird is one of those solo artists who is active for a while, so he practically used these troubled times to finish his brand new recording named Pine Trees & The Faint Sound Of Buzzing. Since his inception as a solo artist in 2015, Heavybird continuously released an impressive amount of records in such short period, such as It Hurts & It Heals, Smile, Beautiful; You Are Free EP, a single named 27:27, Swans Eternal EP, and The Search. All these recordings were released from 2015 to 2017.

It took four years in the making, and there’s a good reason for such a big gap between a previous and a brand new album. Pine Trees & The Faint Sound Of Buzzing showcases a lot of improvements, signs of progress, and natural evolvement of this unique solo artist. Heavybird explores the vast universe of psychedelic rock music through nine thoroughly planned compositions, but this interesting artist doesn’t stop there. Heavybird goes even further by implementing the aesthetics of post-rock, shoegaze, alternative rock, and indie rock. These maneuvers resulted in elaborate orchestrations where this clever artist combines the beforementioned ingredients with fundamentals of psychedelic music. Perhaps this material leans toward psychedelic rock, but it also explores all types of genres where psychedelia may be applied.

Heavybird keeps things calm, smooth, detailed, but interesting enough so you won’t be distracted by the constant calmness. Quite the contrary, this material demands even more attention because Heavybird incorporated loads of hidden surprises beneath the layers of melodies, harmonies, ambiances, and rhythmic segments. The guitars carry some characteristic fuzzy tone but more like they’re semi-distorted than overly distorted. Therefore, you’ll hear each note delivered by the guitars without being spoiled by the unnecessary noises. The appropriately assembled rhythmic sequences are keeping everything in place but also perfectly matching to the guitar performance. Heavybird thought about each detail while writing, composing, arranging, and producing this material.

Although Heavybird is a solo artist, he decided to include some session musicians on this material to spice things up a little bit. Each musician contributed with some ideas, but the base remains the same. That’s the reason why this album sounds so good. Pine Trees & The Faint Sound Of Buzzing is highly recommended for the admirers of a calmy, psychedelic, alternative rock with loads of indie and shoegaze twists and turns. The album is available on streaming services, such as Spotify and Bandcamp.
