Audio Visceral – Gnu Two Ewe CS (Tarantula Tapes)

Audio Visceral is a punk rock trio hailing from Vankleek Hill, Ontario, Canada. After searching for some information about the band, I found out that the band comprises some local veterans who’ve been an integral part of the underground scene for years. Since their formation, Audio Visceral released a couple of releases, such as a full-length compact disc named Cildce Behaver and a split 7” record with Snacks? The band embraces such interesting visual aesthetics, usually followed by more or less detailed illustrations. These artworks are going hand in hand with their weirdly hilarious album titles. Today, I will talk about their latest recording Gnu Two Ewe, released by Tarantula Tapes in April of 2020.

This time, Audio Visceral decided to stack eight compositions in something more than twenty minutes. The album cover reveals a punk rocker dumpster diving for some records while the beautiful band logo is floating above. Such a neat illustration that goes perfectly with the overall aesthetics of the band. Audio Visceral explores the vast universe of rock’n’roll driven punk rock sound, but their music includes elements of eighties hardcore punk, garage rock, and dream pop. The garage rock aesthetics are levitating somewhere in the air, but the sound is not entirely raw and dirty. Still, the production is not polished to perfection, so the group balances between abrasive and clean sound throughout the entire album.

The band may resemble overly popularized Ramonescore bands because of their devotion to garage rock, rock’n’roll, punk rock, and dream pop, but I guess that’s not their intention. These guys unquestionably sound unique and fresh, judging by the overall ambiance, musicianship, and ideas. Gnu Two Ewe will be a perfect soundtrack for the admirers of seventies and eighties garage rock, who also seek out some punk rock energy and dream-pop melodies. Gnu Two Ewe comes on a sonic green cassette, strictly limited to 50 copies. Head over to Tarantula Tapes and preserve your copy.
