Dalstroy – Bite The Spirit EP (Geenger Records)

We are going back into the 90s with another amazing band from Croatia. Dalstroy is coming from Osijek and this trio has published their EP through Geenger Records. Bite The Spirits delivers a much more experimental side of genres such as grunge, punk rock, post-punk, new wave, and indie. Each genre has been incorporated in six dynamic tunes and it represents a unifying, chaotic, noisy sound of Dalstroy which is undoubtfully unique in many different ways. To be fair, I said the 90s because the sound of Dalstroy kinda reminds me of a homogenous mixture of couple bands which has been originators of subgenres that a lot of modern bands are playing today. Some of those bands are Melvins, Quicksand, Helmet, Tool, plus a lot of other grunge, noise rock and post-rock bands who made some notable albums during the 90s. Music-wise, Dalstroy is more focusing on noise rock aspect of their music, which is mostly presentable through guitar shreddings and various arpeggios. But that doesn’t mean we should underestimate the power of the rest of this Croatian trio. The rhythm section gives a lot more guts to the guitars through fuzzy bass lines and impressive drumming. One of the Dalstroy’s hidden weapons are their melodic post-rock moments which are not so dominant like some bands have tended to play or perform, but these guys are dosing perfect amounts of those melodies with characteristic noise rock arrangements. Vocals are confident, tight, with enough balance between classic monotone singing during verses and slightly distorted yelling on the choruses.  Bite The Spirit EP comes with the monochrome cover artwork of a bald male holding his head with both hands in times of desperation. It goes great with music by this powerful trio which you may find at the Geenger Records bandcamp or other streaming services by the same record label.
