Monk aren’t a straight edge band but have deep respect for people who are, who treat their bodies as temples, and these covers are a tribute to the clean way of living and the hardcore scene that has kept it going for decades.
Bach explains:
“We did these Stop and Think covers because the songs rock and I’ve always felt like they never got the recognition they deserved. Their early 2000s Boston sound is straightforward hardcore, and I wanted to bring some of that energy to the West Coast. Releasing these on Edge Day felt like a good way to shine a light on a band we love. Get lost!”
The single comes with a video produced by Born in the North.
Monk is an LA-based hardcore project blending raw aggression with moments of mindfulness. Inspired by staples like Dead Kennedys and Negative Approach, alongside newer torchbearers like Puffer and Skinhead, Monk fuse blunt-force intensity with spirituality, drawing from thinkers like Ram Dass and Thích Nhất Hạnh.
The result is music that grapples with ego, doubt, and identity, finding growth in the tension between light and dark, and turning the friction into fuel.
