Criminal Hero – Walk Through The Fire

If you paid attention to what’s happening on the underground music scene in recent years, you have probably noticed how genres like hard rock and punk rock have lost their true essence. Due to hyperproduction, overly polished sound, and lyrics that no longer mean a thing, many artists and bands now deliver music that doesn’t resonate with the crowd anymore. Sometimes, it feels like both genres have lost their rawness, power, energy, and sincerity simply because music outlets chase likes and streams nowadays instead of recording music that will tackle all the senses. Thankfully, there are artists like Criminal Hero who think outside of the box, break all the rules, and shapeshift the boundaries of both styles with such precision and finesse that you’ll immediately crave to hear more. With “Walk Through The Fire,” his latest standalone single, released on May 22nd, this clever Canadian singer-songwriter brings back everything you dearly love about hard rock and punk rock music. This composition is packed with pure rage, agression, rawness, and power, yet it carries a vividly hearable dosage of melody and harmony, something that artists and bands rarely achieve these days. And while “Walk Through The Fire” consists of dominant hard rock core and tremendous punk rock energy, with both styles shining brightly through every segment of this marvelous song, you’ll definitely notice how Criminal Hero infused some other complementary subgenres along the way. If you dive deep into this composition, you’ll hear how some of the finest properties borrowed from garage rock, action rock, and rock ‘n’ roll found their place in this sonic equation, but as is usually the case, there’s even more than meets the eye. While these additional styles serve as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details that empower this song and elevate it to an entirely new level, Criminal Hero simultaneously remains loyal to the primary sonic direction, delivering an unfiltered, in-your-face hard rock sound. It’s one of those songs that immediately grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go long after the last notes and beats fade away.

Lyrically, “Walk Through The Fire” explores confrontation, consequence, and personal choice through a driving rhythm, tension, and cinematic restraint. And you can feel how lyrics affect the sound and vice versa. It’s a symbiosis that works to the advantage of this composition. Everything is so cleverly written, composed, arranged, and produced, resonating with that unfiltered sound that scene has been missing for years. Of course, the first thing you’ll notice is the excellent vocal performance that, in this case, serves as a centerpiece of this composition, commands attention, elevates everything to new heights, and guides listeners on a thrilling journey through the expansive sonic universe. Somewhere between clean and naturally distorted shouts, this soulful, passionate, sincere, confident vocal performance delivers melody and power in equal measures, seamlessly balancing low, mid, and high notes with such precision and finesse. Besides decorating all the segments and orchestrations, his voice contributes more than necessary aggression and emotion throughout the entire song, and during the choruses, there are also additional vocal layers that make this composition even more anthemic. In the meantime, the interplay between guitars shapes a perfect backdrop for all the vocals to shine upon. You’ll hear how multiple guitar layers deliver all those catchy, memorable, engaging, tastefully distorted chord progressions and riffs, making this composition as melodic and raw as possible. There’s also a guitar lead during the bridge that elevates the entire composition to new heights. Of course, this composition wouldn’t sound complete without the equally impressive rhythm section. You’ll notice how intricate, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines rumble beneath all those lush guitar works, contributing more than necessary heaviness, clarity, and depth while acting as a binding element between the mentioned orchestrations and rhythmic patterns. The exceptional drumming performance, based upon intricate, tastefully assembled, flawlessly performed, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics, keeps the remainder of the orchestrations in line while dictating groove and pace. Each detail plays a significant role in this sonic equation, making “Walk Through The Fire” such a memorable piece worth revisiting over and over again.

Criminal Hero has crafted a captivating composition that expertly blends some of the finest properties of hard rock, garage rock, and punk rock. It packs all the aggression, rawness, power, and melody you need from a proper rock song. “Walk Through The Fire” is a modern rock masterpiece with a retro feel that vividly showcases Crimina Hero’s tremendous songwriting, composing, arranging, and producing abilities. His experience, knowledge, creativity, talent, and skills are on full display here, as he delivers one of the catchiest rock songs you’ll hear in years.
