The album consists of 12 songs written in 2025 in their (i)regular line-up of tenor saxophone, trumpet, two bass guitars, drums and vocals. They shape “Babin Kut” into a strong expression of emotions, designing it with the order of the songs as a basis for their stage performance. Forever difficult to define in terms of genre, they experiment with elements of Dixieland, cabaret, Balkan traditional, dance and ska music, but essentially they always remain a punk band, and their aesthetics are unmistakably Kajkavian.
“Babin Kut” brings “The colors of clouds, storms and thunder, (…) says Mijo Kovačić , a great Croatian naive painter whose work “Winter” aptly adorns the cover of this album. “It bursts with emotions and represents a unique musical and textual scream in this region.” Kranks and “Babin Kut” are only for some – not for everyone.
The album “Babin Kut” was recorded in December 2025 at the Radio Študent Ljubljana studio, produced by Samo Pavlica “Linch” and Kranks . Mastering was done by Bojan Miljančić AKA Eikonoise . The cover is a painting by Mijo Kovačić (oil on glass, 1976), and the design is by Ana Dilger-Pintarić . The album is released in collaboration between the band, PDV, and God Bless This Mess Records from Slovenia.
“to our joy, the joy of those who know, the horror of many, the disgust of some, the ignorance of some, the delight of those who have come to know, the moving of those dear to us, the apathy of some, the delight of the enlightened… for the alone, lost among people, never found, seekers who will never find what they are looking for, observers from afar, guardians of their thoughts, consumers of anxiety, chronic autophagous…”, say Kranks!
To introduce the whole thing, Kranksi bring us the first single “Ponoreli jopec” from the upcoming album ‘Babin kut’!
