Arcane Arcade – Charter

If you paid close attention to what’s happening on the contemporary melodic punk rock scene, then you probably noticed how the scene thrives, with so many excellent bands popping up from all parts of the globe, delivering some of the finest works the scene has witnessed in decades. But what happens when dynamic, melodic punk rock meets emotionally resonant post-hardcore? You get one of the finest blends that immediately tackles all the senses. Arcane Arcade, an exceptional Floridian band based in Tampa, exemplifies how this blend, when done right, could sound catchy, memorable, engaging, and fascinating. With “Charter,” their latest standalone single released on March 13th, they demonstrate how melodic punk rock can still sound fresh, unique, innovative, and exciting without losing the qualities that made you fall in love with the genre decades ago. Lyrically, Charter is an intense ride through the modern landscape of gun-toting zealots, worshipping the coming dominion of our technocratic overlords. But don’t fret! There are pills for that sort of anxiety! It dives into and examines the problems the United States of America faces today by examining the causes with such precision. The band also explores various sentiments, moods, situations, and circumstances, making it a highly relatable composition that will immediately resonate with the audience. Sonically, the band has found a sweet spot somewhere between melodic punk rock, pop-punk, and post-hardcore, constructing an adequate platform where their critique of modern society shines in the limelight.

As soon as you press play, you’ll stumble upon heavily distorted yet melodic guitar works that shape a perfect backdrop for all the vocals to shine upon. The way Arcane Arcade blends rawness and harmony, aggression and melody, power and mellowness goes beyond comprehension so many times throughout the entire track. You’ll hear how all those interplays between multiple guitar layers resonate during each segment. On one side, you’ll notice all those raw, abrasive, gritty chord progressions and riffs, building a platform that represents the core of the song, while the other side uplifts everything to an entirely new level by delivering many catchy, memorable, and engaging themes, melodies, harmonies, and other sonic maneuvers. It’s nearly mindblowing how all those layers articulate together without overwhelming each other, proving that Arcane Arcade thought about everything while writing, composing, arranging, and producing this single. In the meantime, the marvelous, soulful, passionate, emotive, and powerful lead vocal performance elevates everything to new heights, commands attention, and guides listeners on an epic journey through the expansive sonic universe. The way these vocal harmonies balance low, mid, and high notes goes beyond comprehension. Besides emphasizing everything the remainder of the band intended to achieve with this song, and decorating everything from segments to separate instrumentations with such precision and finesse, this performance also contributes more than necessary emotional depth and complexity to an already intricate structure.

Of course, the rhythm section is equally important in this sonic equation, and you’ll notice how all those vividly hearable, warm-sounding, intricate basslines roam beneath the guitars, contributing heaviness, clarity, and depth while simultaneously acting as a binding element between the mentioned instrumentations and rhyhtmic patterns. The exceptional drumming performance, based upon energetic, tastefully crafted, flawlessly performed, and well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics, keeps the remainder of the band in line while dictating groove and pace. The entire rhythm section offers tremendous groove, detail, and dynamic, making “Charter” such a pleasant listening experience worth listening to over and over again. With “Charter,” Arcane Arcade demonstrates that modern melodic punk rock can still have so much to offer. Their thoughtful songwriting, tremendous experience, knowledge, talent, skills, and creativity are on full display here, playing a vital role in shaping one of the finest tracks in the underground scene experienced in recent years. Arcane Arcade is a band you definitely need to check out as soon as possible, as their unique, fresh, and innovative sound breathes fresh air into the genre. If you like your punk rock music emotive, thoughtful, and powerful, then “Charter” is a song you surely do not want to miss.
