Eric Angelo Bessel – Mirror At Night B-Sides 7″

If you spent any time last year getting lost in the immersive textures of Mirror at Night, then you already know that Eric Angelo Bessel is an soundscape-builder. This American composer has a knack for creating soundscapes that feel like living, breathing environments. Just when we thought we had finished exploring that specific sonic universe, Bessel returns with a brilliant 7″ EP, Mirror at Night B-Sides, set to drop this Friday, March 27, 2026. Usually, the term “B-sides” implies leftovers or tracks that weren’t quite strong enough for the long-play record. In this case, that couldn’t be further from the truth. These two instrumental compositions are more than just companion pieces because they serve more as essential extensions of the narrative Bessel started in 2025. This release feels like a secret doorway into a room you didn’t realize existed, offering a glimpse into a space where the boundaries of time and place simply dissolve. Musically, Bessel operates in that fascinating crossroad of ambient, experimental, and avant-garde. The compositions here are long, cinematic pieces where multiple calm, soothing, and ethereal layers collide. The usage of synths is particularly notable because Bessel constructs architecture out of frequency. There is an otherworldly quality to the way these instrumental layers interact, creating a fascinating soundscape that immediately wraps around your listening apparatus. It’s music that refuses to let go, remaining in your subconscious long after the needle leaves the groove.

By using modern tools, he manages to summon something that feels eerily eternal. It doesn’t sound like a new recording made in a sterile studio. It sounds unearthed, like a transmission from a memory you didn’t know you had. There’s a sense that these sounds are vibrating just for you, while simultaneously feeling vast and eternal. These tracks drift between memory and dream with a such a unique fluidity. One moment you are grounded in a warm, pulsing synth bed, and the next, you are floating in a wash of experimental textures that sound like they are dissolving right in front of you. This material exemplifies tension and release, even within the calm constraints of the ambient genre. For the collectors and the purists, having these tracks on a 7″ format is a treat. There is something about the physical ritual of putting on a record that suits Bessel’s music perfectly. It forces you to sit still, to listen, and to let the atmosphere take over. This EP proves that even the material that didn’t make the initial cut for the album is more than perfect and absolutely worth your time. If you appreciate music that challenges your perception of space and time while providing a soothing, soul-cleansing experience, Mirror at Night B-Sides is a must-listen. It’s a short but incredibly deep journey into the mind of a composer who is currently at the top of his game. Eric Angelo Bessel has given us two more reasons to keep our eyes and ears on his output.
