Desert Kites are an alternative two-piece rock band from Dundee. Their songs are heavily influenced by 90s grunge and hard rock, but there is a dash of shoegaze and a definite nod to classic and prog rock along the way. Their songs reflect life around them. Sometimes angry, sometimes sad, sometimes indifferent always poetic. They prefer imagery over narrative, creating lyrical montages that provide alternative views of the human experience, all wrapped up in solid melodic structures.
By the end of 2023 Desert Kites had drawn a line under the first chapter of their evolution with the release of their EP ‘All You Want Is More’ which featured the eponymously titled track as well as 3 other singles; ‘Restless Mind’, ‘Something Dark’ and ‘Sorry Ass’. These releases gave the band a platform and increased visibility as the songs were streamed and played on the radio across the globe in their thousands.
The band caught the attention of SODEH Records and signed a digital distribution deal with with them in 2024. Their first three singles, ‘Black & White’, ‘Holiday’ and ‘Angel’ via the Canadian label, out performed all previous releases, garnering increased airplay support and visibility across the globe. The band ended last year with the festive release ‘Once More Round The Sun’, and now, after spending the best part of 2025 in the studio, they are back with new music!
“There’s just too much terrible stuff happening in the world right now and we all seem powerless to change it, paralyzed by television and social media. All I want to do is bury my head in the sand and make it go away, but it won’t. Acting like an ostrich isn’t going to change anything… the world will keep on turning.” – Shaleph O’Neill
