This weekend, flipturn will wrap a triumphant North American summer tour – which has seen them bring their lauded new album Burnout Days (“songs that capture something hopeful and essential,” as The Washington Post deemed it) to prominent stages at Lollapalooza (where they were highlighted as a ‘favorite artist’ by Rolling Stone), Newport Folk (“standing ovation worthy,” per Consequence) and many more. To celebrate, the Florida five-piece have teamed up with Australia’s Old Mervs (who they recently performed with at a late-night Lollapalooza afterparty) to reimagine the title track to Burnout Days. It’s a fitting collaboration, as flipturn prepares to tour Australia for the first time ever this November and December, after playing their biggest European shows to date earlier in the fall.
“We truly couldn’t be more excited to be coming to Australia for the first time” says flipturn lead singer Dillon Basse. “Australia has a history of producing some of the best music, so it was a true honor to have a band like Old Mervs featured on this new version of our title track ‘Burnout Days.’ We’ve always thought ‘Burnout Days’ was a summer song, and since we will be coming over during the Australian summer we thought they would be the perfect fit.”
Old Mervs’ Dave Housesays, “We are absolutely stoked with this collab with flipturn! ‘Burnout Days’ is such a fun song and playing around in the studio with it was a blast. It’s really refreshing and exciting working on something like this, features aren’t something you get to do all that often so a big thanks to flipturn crew for having us on this one.”
This all marks the latest excitement in what has quickly become a banner 2025 for flipturn; a year which began with their national television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Spring tour dates across the United States saw them play their largest headline show to date (5,000 fans in Washington DC) and sell out iconic venues like Chicago’s Salt Shed and New York’s Terminal 5. While in New York, the band also sat down for a television interview with ABC News Live’s Linsey Davis, to reflect on their journey from playing garages to headline tours. Ultimately, the band’s 2025 tour dates have seen them increase their venue sizes seven-fold or more in most cities across the country, since touring their 2022 debut album Shadowglow.
