Ahead of the release of their debut self-titled album on Friday, August 22, Orange County duo Double Wish today share new single “Riptide” via Hit The North Records

Sun-drenched and groove-driven, “Riptide” rises and crashes in cycles, an ode to the currents, tides and swells of the sea. Following singles “Tattooed Heart” and “How Often Do You Think of Me” (which picked up nods from StereogumNorthern Transmissions, PasteKEXP & more), the song’s stripped back and playful tones shift into explosive distorted guitars before collapsing back into warm summery nostalgia.

Of the song Adam Sabolick and Philippe Andre share: “‘Riptide’ was inspired by our personal experiences with surfing and time spent in the ocean. How something sublime can be so beautiful and refreshing, but also dangerous and unpredictable. The ocean is a bit of a metaphor here for the challenges of facing uncertainty, and the emotional forces that can pull you down. Surrender, survival and acceptance. Taking risks, getting knocked down, but trying again.

The accompanying music video  was filmed in Andre’s studio, where each of the songs of Double Wish were written and recorded.

Our Vibe Bass VI played a crucial part in this song evolving, so it’s highlighted a lot throughout the video,” shares Sabolick. “The verses of the song are held down by a bouncy bass lick that Philippe started playing when we first bought the instrument, immediately inspiring the vocal melody and the first few lyrical lines. Like the other videos we’ve shared, they are sort of a memory of the writing and recording process—constantly swapping instruments, jumping from place to place to hone in on ideas and parts.

Double Wish follows the release of 2025’s Deeper Ecstasy EP, 2024’s Universe Sometimes EP and 2023’s Light Split Sparkle EP

It’s hard to believe the darkwave pop mainstays are only now releasing their debut LP. Their intoxicating blend of styles, boundary-pushing POV, and restless experimentation have made the duo of Philippe Andre and Adam Sabolick indie darlings, and on their first official album, they set out to show exactly why they’re so beloved.

Andre and Sabolick didn’t set out to make their grandest statement to date when they began trading ideas that would end up on Double Wish, which is perhaps why the album feels so whimsical yet so precise, the perfect balance of improvisational spirit and attention to detail.

As we were finishing the EPs leading up to the album, we had some opportunities to experiment,” Sabolick explains. “With the album, we explored our harddrive of sounds and built them out without any rules. We had a clear vision of what the album was supposed to be, but we let the ideas lead us, too.

Above all, Double Wish is a defining statement from a band that has been hinting at their most fully realized vision for a number of years. It’s an album defiant in its position in this broken era of playlisting and short attention spans. It asks to be heard from front to back, and demands that attention thanks to the quality of these songs.

Double Wish will celebrate the album with a limited-edition beer collaboration and release party with Stereo Brewing, featuring DJ sets from Yppah, Litronix and more, plus a pop-up store with local record shop, Resident Vinyl in Placentia, CA, taking place on the album’s release date.

Double Wish is due out August 22 via Hit The North Records. Pre-save the album here | Bandcamp vinyl pre-order here
