Some Soviet Station’s Self-Titled Album Available On Vinyl For First Time Via Expert Work Records

Expert Work Records released Some Soviet Station’s self-titled effort for the first time. The 12″ LP is limited to 250 copies on blue vinyl. The album was recorded by Bob Weston, and was remastered for vinyl by Carl Saff.

Some Soviet Station was an American emo-hardcore/math-rock band from Atlanta, Georgia, and was comprised of Chris McNeal, Jesse Smith, Justin Snyder, and Lee Corum. The band released its self-titled full-length album in 2000, and in years since, it has garnered a cult following from fans of the mathrock, emo, and post-rock genres.

Known for their explosive energy and intricate song structures, Some Soviet Station quickly became a force in the Atlanta scene, drawing comparisons to bands like Drive Like Jehu and At the Drive-In. The self-titled album captures the band’s dynamic sound, featuring fan favorites such as “Sonic Titan,” “Hello Dial Tone,” and “Sitting on a Fence.”

Members of Some Soviet Station previously played in Ripcord, which turned into the emo/Cap’n Jazz influenced Kossabone Red. After Kossabone Red the members would reform as Some Soviet Station, with a more aggressive sound and release this one and only album. After Some Soviet Station, its members went on to perform in Maserati, Paper Lions, Vincas, Carbonas, Gentleman Jesse, Copa Vance, and The Purkinje Shift.

This vinyl release marks a significant moment for both the band and their devoted fans. It’s a chance to revisit the raw power of their music on a format that has seen a resurgence in recent years. Whether you’re a long-time listener or discovering Some Soviet Station for the first time, this vinyl edition is a must-have for any collector of post-hardcore and math-rock.
