Bone Wars – Terrible Lizards

Bone Wars, an excellent English band based in Huddersfield, has recently released a debut track that will immediately resonate with those music enthusiasts looking for catchy, memorable, engaging, cleverly assembled, and flawlessly performed music. Although “Terrible Lizards” is their first piece of work, this incredible quartet shines with tremendous quality, showcasing their fascinating songwriting, composing, arranging, and producing abilities. Sonically, Bone Wars dives deep into the early seventies psychedelic rock realm, delivering this luxuriant ambiance with such style. However, don’t be surprised if you stumble upon some other complementary music genres, like garage, art rock, ethno, world music, etc. Perhaps their music dominantly resonates with that seventies psych-rock vibes, but it’s certainly garnered with some fresh ideas and modern sound. Bone Wars uses all these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift their music to new heights while simultaneously remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with many complementary styles and different approaches resulted in a magnificent debut composition that will not only resonate with psych rock fans but also those listeners who appreciate fresh, multilayered music.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice that Bone Wars poured heart and soul into this composition. “Terrible Lizards” arrives with a perfect structure, garnered with many profoundly detailed segments, brilliant ideas, and marvelous musicianship. Each vocal, sonic, and rhythmic maneuver has its place and purpose in this sonic equation. You’ll immediately notice how the interplay between many guitar layers reigns supreme in the mix while shaping a perfect backdrop for all the vocals to shine upon. It’s nearly mindblowing how all these layers articulate together without overwhelming each other. The cleverly assembled, abrasive, raw, fuzzy riffs and chord progressions resonate on one side while the other shines with catchy, mesmerizing leads, themes, melodies, harmonies, and other sonic maneuvers. Together, they create a lush ambiance that immediately grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go long after this song ends. They even implemented that sitar effect for a more twangy, jangly, angular yet gritty sound. Such a nice addition that perfectly suits the ambiance. Besides all these marvelous guitar works, you’ll notice how Bone Wars implemented synths, making this song even more pleasant to the ears. These additional chord progressions, harmonies, and melodies spice things up and offer more complexity to an already intricate structure.

Of course, vocals play a significant role in this sonic equation. You’ll hear how all those soulful, passionate, sincere, confident, emotional, and powerful vocal harmonies elevate each segment and instrumentation to new heights, command attention, and guide the listening apparatus from scratch to finish with precision and finesse. The impressive vocal range seamlessly balances low, mid, and high notes, emphasizing everything these profoundly creative musicians intended to achieve with their debut track. Also, it’s nearly mindblowing how all those guitar and synth works match vocals harmoniously, making “Terrible Lizards” even more pleasing to the ears. Of course, this composition wouldn’t sound this good without a rock-solid rhythm section. You’ll notice how all those equally impressive, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines roar beneath the guitars and synths, providing more than necessary heaviness, clarity, and depth while simultaneously binding all those orchestrations with drums. These low-ends are luxuriant, deep, dense, and heavy, contributing more power to the song. In the meantime, the exceptional drumming performance navigates the remainder of the instrumentations while dictating groove and pace with cleverly arranged, flawlessly performed, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Each instrument has its place and purpose in this sonic equation, showcasing Bone Wars’ dedication to the craft.

“Terrible Lizards” is an incredible debut composition that vividly showcases Bone Wars’ songwriting and composing abilities. They invested all their experience, knowledge, skills, talent, heart, and soul into it, making it not only an impressive debut but also a song that will immediately resonate with anyone who appreciates cleverly assembled and flawlessly performed rock music. Bone Wars is one of those bands that amazes with the initial notes and beats, so you should unquestionably place “Terrible Lizards” on your music radar as soon as possible. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
