We’re thrilled to share an exclusive premiere of “Ambo,” a brand-new album by Frise Lumière. The official release date is October 18th, so you can pre-order the album on CD, vinyl, cassette and digital  HERE.

The term ‘Ambo’ originated with the writer Maria Gabriela Llansol, who defined it as two beings that, even when together, keep their singularity, growing mutually in dialogue without canceling one other out.

Under a grazing light, Frise Lumière is a personal project by artist, musician and composer Ludovic Gerst. By refining the instrumentation to only his bass, he is able to extract rythmic, harmonic and percussive melodies.

Frise Lumière began as a series of work sessions, collaborations, and experiments with dancers, artists, and textile designers before evolving into a fully solo project. Exploring and perfecting this rhythmic instrument to the fullest extent possible before creating his debut album, Bisou Genou, which was released at the end of October 2021 and performed throughout Europe.

Ambo is the outcome of numerous interactions from the past and present, affirming and advancing the research of his prepared bass’s acoustic possibilities. His use of broomsticks, mallets, and drumsticks enhances his rhythmic playing.

Whether he plays his instrument more conventionally or flat on his lap. A method that is already audible in a few of the tracks on his first LP.

“Everything comes from raw textures, a noise, a note… like a voiceless chant trying to come to life, to cast itself out of a body, out of a mouth, out of this page, this bass. Hit, stroke, hijacked, refined to only itself, the instrument becomes both melodic and rhythmic, turning into percussion, letting through other voices, other breaths
