Abstract Concrete (This Heat founder Charles Hayward‘s new band), announces a full album reworked remixes of their self-titled debut album, featuring collaborations with Joe Goddard & Al Doyle (Hot Chip), The Umlauts with more to be announced soon. The first single is out today and it is a remix or track Ventriloquist/Dummy by DJ Dairy (Black Midi).

Abstract Concrete, the boundary-pushing project helmed by influential experimental heavyweight Charles Hayward, is set to release a fully reworked remix album of their critically acclaimed self-titled debut. This ambitious reinterpretation brings together some of the most forward-thinking names in music, with contributions from DJ Dairy of Black Midi, Joe Goddard and Al Doyle of Hot Chip, The Umlauts and more to be announced soon!

Following the success of the original album, Abstract Concrete’s new remix release delves even deeper into sonic exploration, fusing experimental rock, avant-garde electronics, and deconstructed rhythms into a fresh, genre-defying experience. Each artist on the roster has reimagined a track from the debut album, putting their own unique twist on Hayward’s groundbreaking soundscapes.

Charles Hayward, best known for his pioneering work with post-punk innovators This Heat and Camberwell Now, launched Abstract Concrete to explore new avenues of sonic disruption. The project’s debut album received widespread acclaim for its daring approach, merging live instrumentation with electronic deconstruction. Hayward continues to push the envelope of sound and structure, and this remix album is a testament to his ongoing influence in experimental music circles.

The series opens with a release from DJ Dairy (Cameron Picton of Black Midi). Known for his work in Black Midi’s chaotic, genre-bending sound, DJ Dairy’s remix introduces an explosive blend of angular rhythms and raw energy, taking Abstract Concrete’s sound into a new dimension of frenetic intensity.
