Catlea – Lying

Lying” is the latest single by Catlea, an outstanding Cincinnati-based singer-songwriter. It’s her first piece of work in 2024, serving as a proper continuation of “Like Me” and “Chemicals,” two excellent compositions released last year. However, this particular song delivers many innovations in songwriting, composing, arranging, and producing. Also, it’s good to mention that “Lying” announces “Language Barrier,” Catlea’s upcoming full-length album, slated for release later this year. Soundwise, Catlea combines a singer-songwriter approach with some of the finest properties borrowed from many different but complementary subgenres. Perhaps indie pop comes to mind first, but you’ll also notice many alt-pop, pop-rock, funk, groove, dance, and electro elements. She uses all these elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift her latest single on an entirely new level while remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with many additional styles resulted in a catchy, memorable, hypnotic number that will immediately grab your attention and refuse to let go, even after the song ends.

You’ll immediately notice how much attention to detail Catlea paid while writing, composing, arranging, and producing this composition. “Lying” arrives with a perfect song structure, garnered with many segments and impressive orchestrations. Catlea’s marvelous vocal range commands attention and guides the listener through each section while simultaneously emphasizing each note and beat. It’s nearly mindblowing how her otherwordly vocal harmonies balance low, mid, and high notes, decorating everything she tried to achieve with this track. Also, you’ll be deeply impressed with all the instrumentations she included along the way. The guitar acts as an adequate backdrop, supporting all the vocal articulations by delivering funky and arpeggiated chord progressions, subtle riffs, delicate accentuations, themes, leads, melodies, and harmonies. This particular instrument plays a significant role in shaping such an otherwordly ambiance. Also, it’s good to mention that all these guitar maneuvers harmoniously match Catlea’s marvelous vocal performance.

Of course, this track wouldn’t sound this good without a rock-solid rhythm section. You’ll immediately notice how intricate, audible, warm-sounding basslines provide more than necessary heaviness, clarity, and depth while simultaneously binding guitars with drums. The bass guitar is almost equally present in the mix as guitars, which immensely contributes to the song’s complexity. In the meantime, the tastefully arranged rhythmic patterns based upon dynamic, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics dictate groove and tempo while also keeping the remainder of the instrumentations in line. Everything sounds top-notch, ensuring a pleasant listening experience for every true modern indie pop fan. Catlea poured heart and soul into this song. Her talent is vividly hearable during each segment, where she showcases outstanding vocal and musical excellence. “Lying” is a marvelous demonstration of what you might expect from her upcoming full-length album, and there is no doubt this particular song will become one of your favorite indie-pop tracks this year. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
