Avalon Stone – Drag Me

Canadian songstress Avalon Stone returns with “Drag Me,” another marvelous sonic display of her abilities as a singer, songwriter, and musician. This outstanding hard rock composition arrives as a perfect follow-up of “Harder” and “Forget,” two incredible songs we had a chance to write about before. “Drag Me” talks about battling personal demons and finding resilience. It’s a contemplative number that will unquestionably resonate with the broader auditorium. With Juno award-winning Kevin Dietz and lead guitarist Caleb Bourgeois on board, “Drag Me” explores several rock subgenres with precision and finesse. For those who might missed our previous reviews, Avalon Stone combines a singer-songwriter approach with only the finest sonic ingredients borrowed from hard rock, grunge, alternative, and rock ‘n’ roll. You may also stumble upon some elements of southern, stoner, and garage rock along the way, as her soulful vocal delivery and impressive musicianship include an entire specter of various styles. It’s a treat for the listening apparatus, and there is no doubt “Drag Me” will immediately grab your attention and become one of your favorites this year.

Once again, her vocal range shines from scratch to finish. She delivers otherwordly vocal harmonies with such ease, commanding attention and guiding listeners through every section of the song. She also emphasizes all the orchestrations by skillfully balancing low, mid, and high notes, ensuring everything sounds precise. The way she navigates this sonic journey with her sincere, confident, powerful, and emotive vocal performance goes beyond comprehension so many times during this mesmerizing sonic journey. Of course, this grunge rock voyage wouldn’t be complete without excellent guitar work. The interplay between rhythm and lead guitar shapes an engaging backdrop that supports Stone’s exceptional voice. You’ll notice how regular and palm-muted riffs shine on one side while the other bursts with arpeggiated chord progressions, catchy themes, leads, and other sonic maneuvers. These cleverly assembled instrumentations add a touch of more than necessary complexity that adequately pairs a calm, soothing, and ethereal atmosphere.

This song wouldn’t sound this heavy and powerful without rock-solid rhythm section. Avalon Stone always thinks about even the tiniest details and nuances while writing, composing, and producing her songs, so you’ll also notice how intricate, audible, warm-sounding low-ends provide more heaviness and depth during each section. This particular instrument also ensures the guitar and drums are blended perfectly, as those warm tones serve like a glue that holds everything together. The experienced drummer keeps the remainder of the instrumentations in line and dictates groove and tempo with precise, moderate, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive maneuvers. His delicate details and accentuations spice things up to the max, offering a touch of more than necessary complexity. Avalon Stone proves once again she’s a profoundly creative singer-songwriter, as “Drag Me” arrives with a cleverly arranged song structure, stacked with many segments that withhold impressive ideas and musicianship. Besides her otherwordly voice and exceptional musicianship, she showcases all her songwriting and composing abilities to the max, as “Drag Me” is the best number she released so far. This track carries everything you ever needed from modern hard rock music. Therefore, you should check it out immediately. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
