Coma Beach – Extreme Masochist

German punk rockers Coma Beach return with “Extreme Masochist,” the fourth single from “The Scapegoat’s Agony,” their full-length album. For those who missed our previous writings about these folks, the album pays homage to “Waiting for Godot” by Irish playwright and novelist Samuel Beckett. Soundwise, Coma Beach offers relentless sonic assault based upon raw, abrasive, aggressive, pure punk rock sound. Their music often levitates between British and European eighties and nineties sound, with subtle touches of modern underground. That’s the case with “Extreme Masochist,” a song that resonates with some of the finest properties borrowed from UK82, streetpunk, and Oi! music. From the start, you’ll notice Coma Beach are not joking around, and they surely mean business with their fourth single.

Coma Beach waste no time with this song. As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how their track resonates with a tremendous wall of sound, achieved by stacking layers of relentless guitar riffs over the top. The guitars play a significant role in shaping an aggressive but well-organized ambiance, making this track such a joyful listening experience that will treat even the pickiest punk rockers. The vividly hearable influences taken from the British and European scene help this track to shine even brighter, while Coma Beach simultaneously deliver their signature moves. They continuously supply cleverly arranged four-chord progressions, supported by equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines, which also serve as a binding element. Coma Beach also decorated their fourth single with a fast-paced solo, which comes like a cherry on top. These leads add more than necessary freshness and complexity to the song. Also, “Extreme Masochist” wouldn’t sound this good without a compelling drumming performance based upon moderate, well-accentuated beats that dictate groove and pace, but also keep the remainder of the instrumentations in line.

The lead vocalist approaches every segment by delivering powerful shouts that almost levitate toward screams. These vocal harmonies give “Extreme Masochist” anthemic vibes, which will unquestionably suit all the punk rockers looking for perfect mid-tempo tunes. Once again, Coma Beach showcase all their experience, knowledge, skills, and talent. This track exemplifies how punk rock music should sound nowadays, without unnecessary levitations in so many subgenres. Coma Beach always deliver brilliant ideas and premium musicianship to the table, making their version of punk rock so compelling, catchy, and ear-appealing. With all the necessary elements borrowed from the eighties and nineties British and European scene, Coma Beach presents a contemporary sound that never fails to amaze. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
