Larmes Noires – Vertigo

Vertigo” is the latest number by Larmes Noires, a Volmerange les mines, France-based post-rock solo project. It’s the third single in a row from a series of singles launched in 2022 and the second track this year. Soundwise, “Vertigo” serves as a perfect follow-up to “Sur la breche” and “Si loin,” two singles Larmes Noires released earlier. However, this composition showcases many innovations in songwriting, composing, arranging, recording, and producing. It demonstrates the natural progression of an artist who clearly knows his direction and what he tries to achieve with this number. Besides the fundamentals of post-rock, you may notice how other complementary music genres found their way into this fine piece of sonic artistry. The elements of shoegaze, art rock, alternative, and cinematic ambient unquestionably serve as more than necessary enhancements, decorations, accentuations, and other details that uplift this number on an entirely new level, while Larmes Noires remains loyal to the primary sonic direction. These experimentations with different styles resulted in a tremendous composition worth repeating over and over again.

The song carries so many divine orchestrations and ideas, skilfully combined into a fine piece of sonic artistry. As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how the guitar rules over the remainder of the instrumentations. Larmes Noires fully stacked “Vertigo” with magnificent, cleverly assembled themes, leads, melodies, harmonies, chord progressions, and riffs, which act as a marvelous backdrop for calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal vocal maneuvers. The artist also implemented multiple layers of guitars to achieve a cathartic, orchestral atmosphere, while the equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines support these guitar works with more than necessary heaviness, depth, and clarity. It’s also good to mention that he also thought about rhythmic sequences. The exceptional drumming performance is based upon flawlessly constructed, well-accentuated, complex beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics that provide groove and pace, but also keep the remainder of the instrumentation in line.

Larmes Noires thought about everything while writing, composing, recording, and producing his latest single. You’ll hear how every segment comes with many mind-blowing orchestrations, contributing to the majestic listening experience. This number sounds even more interesting because he incorporated so many vital ingredients from other music genres. Shoegaze is probably the most notable, but you’ll detect more along the way. Larmes Noires breaks the rules, pushes the boundaries, and reinvents the genre with his brilliant ideas and exceptional musicianship. “Vertigo” proves he’s an artist extraordinaire capable of delivering a masterpiece that stands out from the remainder of the modern scene. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it.
