EGZOZ released a new video for SlightlyDelic, a single taken from their latest full-length release, Smoking Jacket. It has been directed and written by Felat Deliblata and Egzoz.
From the hands of one of Turkey’s underground fantastic animators, Felat Delibalta, comes the tale of a disembodied protagonist that takes us, frame by frame, through the backsides of Istanbul, illustrating both the banalities and phantasms of the daily grind. The ghost which was actually a sheet randomly left on a streetside object, (perhaps a motorbike?) became a fixture of early Egzoz artwork and subsequently was brought to the foreground in this unapologetically raw examination of debasement and exhilaration. Lyrically the song’s hero is the once-ubiquitous Mert Hallı, a musician and organizer who worked tirelessly and often psychedelically-triggered to create communal spaces that bridged the gap between pioneering bands such as Moğollar and brand-new acts of the day, in off-the-beaten-path musical establishments as the island of Burgaz and Pendor Corner. The song is a bare-bones rally cry around the pitfalls of morphing neighbourhoods and airtight gatekeepers in music scenes that can dampen the sheets of even the pluckiest of spirits. Throw in a little tear gas and a reference to artist, Andres Serrano, and Eyvallah! you have SlightlyDelic!
