Lonely The Brave Released Two New Songs “Victim” & “The Bear”

Lonely The Brave today continue to share new music from their anticipated new album What We Do To Feel. New songs ‘Victim’ and ‘The Bear’ are out now, and follow the album’s lead single ‘The Lens’ which won early support from Kerrang! Radio and multiple BBC Radio 1 shows and set the tone for an album that promises to give power to the everyday, often unremarked upon moments in our lives.

‘Victim’ and ‘The Bear’ lay out two different sides of the band’s approach on the new album, the former casting looming guitars on top of a song that Jack Bennett says is for “Those times when you feel like the world is against you”. Guitarist Mark Trotter goes on to say of the brooding, introspective and triumphant album closer ‘The Bear’ that it “alludes to discussion around the anxiety and fear associated with potential loss of a loved one, and the release of *that* emotion when that comes good.”

What We Do To Feel is an album of hope, hardship, hurdles and gratitude, and looks to give genuine purpose to normality. It reiterates that the things we care about and the things we put our time into make us who we are, and so when the album process became the first time the band had been so separate from each other, the ethos was to wrench as much joy from those moments as possible. It also allowed the band the chance to step away and view their work with a wider lens, active in its creation but following rather than forcing it to become something it didn’t want to.

Guitarist Mark Trotter comments: “You can plan it out as much as you want, but you’re just along for the ride. That’s the most exciting part, seeing what it decided to be. With this album, we’re certainly more mature as people and as a band. That makes sense with everything that has happened since our last one.”

Where 2021’s resurgent third album The Hope List brought with it a resounding optimism under the threat of internal and external pressures, on What We Do To Feel the band invoke something grand yet intimate, overtly powerful yet deeply personal, fuelled by care, clarity and consideration for ourselves and each other.

In understanding that worlds and lives aren’t always defined by seismic shifts but instead through the celebration of everyday victories, something can be created that is greater than the sum of its parts. Lonely The Brave made their name as masters of being able to reach inside and snatch experiences that feel universal, and with What We Do To Feel they emerge skilled in translating the minutiae of everyday life into lasting moments of communal joy.
