Harsh Realms – CVLT LP (Shield Recordings)

Harsh Realms, the Dutch melodic punk rock group, has unleashed their second full-length release, offering a refreshing take on the genre. On CVLT, the band showcases their take on punk rock, infusing org core, melodic punk rock, and pop punk, while defying predictability and repetitiveness. From start to finish, Harsh Realms display their masterful craftsmanship. The band effortlessly navigates through the late nineties up to contemporary melodic punk music, creating a sound that is both familiar and yet uniquely their own.

The guitars on CVLT are undeniably catchy, with skillfully assembled themes, leads, melodies, and harmonies on one and flawlessly executed arpeggiated and regular chord progressions and riffs on the other side. Each track is filled with well-thought-out musical motifs that keep the listener engaged. The rhythm section lays a solid foundation alongside vividly hearable basslines and energetic rhythmic sequences based upon well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Both instruments provide more than the necessary depth, clarity, groove, and dynamics. The raspy vocal harmonies on this album are a standout element, emphasizing the sentiments the band aims to convey. They perfectly complement the intricately woven orchestrations of the band, adding an emotional depth to the already melodic and mesmerizing sound.

Harsh Realms exude experience, creativity, talent, skills, and musicianship throughout CVLT. Their immense dedication and attention to detail are evident in every aspect of the album, resulting in a highly polished and captivating musical journey. This level of dedication will surely resonate with even the most discerning melodic punk rock fans. The irresistible catchiness, combined with the band’s fresh take on many punk rock subgenres, sets them apart from their contemporaries. Harsh Realms has delivered an exceptional album that showcases their growth and versatility, solidifying their place in the melodic punk rock scene.

The visual identity of this material is another detail worth the praise. The transparent red with black vinyl record comes housed in a die-cut, high-quality record sleeve depicting an emoticon dressed as an aristocrat. The way this graphic imagery works with the tremendous sonic identity of the band will blow your mind. Harsh Realms thought about even the tiniest details while assembling their exceptional new album, and CVLT is one of those punk rock records you’ll hold dearly in your collection. Head to their Bandcamp page, Shield Recordings, or Trilob Records if you fancy a cassette edition. It’s a must for any true fan of perfectly executed melodic punk rock music.
