Ranked: Foo Fighters Albums Ranked From Worst To Best

The Foo Fighters have established themselves as one of the most successful rock bands of all time. With over two decades of hits, they have amassed a large discography that has cemented their place in the music industry. In this article, we will be ranking all of their studio albums, from worst to best. So sit back, relax, and enjoy as we dive into the world of the Foo Fighters.

10. CONCRETE AND GOLD

This album marked a bit of a departure from their signature sound, with more experimentation and a wider range of styles. While there are some great tracks on this album, it didn’t quite hit the mark as consistently as some of their earlier works.

Highlights: Run, The Sky Is A Neighborhood, and The Line.

09. MEDICINE AT MIDNIGHT

Medicine At Midnight is their latest studio album, released in 2021. The album sees the band exploring new sounds and styles, incorporating elements of funk, dance, and even a bit of disco into their trademark rock sound. The album also features some incredibly catchy and upbeat tracks, such as Shame Shame and Making A Fire, that are sure to get stuck in your head. While there are some new sounds and styles on the album, some fans may feel that it doesn’t push the boundaries as much as they would have liked. It may not be their most groundbreaking work, but it’s still a fun and enjoyable addition to their discography.

Highlights: Making A Fire, Shame Shame, Cloudspotter, Holding Poison, and Love Dies Young.

08. SONIC HIGHWAYS

The album received generally positive reviews from critics upon its release in 2014. Many critics praised the concept behind the album and the accompanying series, which showcased the band’s love of music and the rich cultural history of the cities they visited. However, some critics felt that the concept behind the album overshadowed the actual music. While the album was still considered a solid effort, it felt that the songs themselves were not as strong as the band’s previous works.

Highlights: Something From Nothing, The Feast And The Famine, What Did I Do? / God As My Witness, Outside, and In The Clear.

07. ECHOES, SILENCE, PATIENCE & GRACE

This album showcased the band’s softer side with some beautiful ballads, and maybe it lacked the energy and excitement of their earlier albums, but Foo Fighters proved they’re a versatile band capable of sounding good in any music genre.

Highlights: The Pretender, Let It Die, Long Road To Ruin, Stranger Things Have Happened, Cheer Up, Boys (Your Make Up Is Running), Statues, But, Honestly, and Home.

06. IN YOUR HONOR

This double album was a bit of a mixed bag, with half of it consisting of acoustic tracks and the other half being more traditional Foo Fighters rock songs. While there are some great tracks on both discs, the album as a whole lacked cohesion and felt a bit exaggerated.

Highlights: In Your Honor, No Way Back, Best Of You, DOA, The Last Song, Resolve, The Deepest Blues Are Black, End Over End, Still, What If I Do, Friend Of A Friend, Over And Out, On The Mend, and Cold Day In The Sun.

05. ONE BY ONE

This album was a bit of a disappointment following the massive success of The Colour And The Shape. While there are some great tracks on the album, it lacked the same level of energy and excitement as their earlier works.Still, it includes some of the Foo Fighters’ greatest hits.

Highlights: All My Life, Have It All, Times Like These, Disenchanted Lullaby, Halo, Lonely As You, Overdrive, Burn Away, Come Back, Walking A Line, and Danny Says.

04. THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE

Critics generally praised the album for its more stripped-down sound, which was a departure from the heavier and more layered sound of the band’s previous album The Colour And The Shape. The album was also praised for its strong songwriting and catchy hooks, with tracks like Learn To Fly and Generator becoming instant classics. However, some critics felt that the album lacked the same level of energy and excitement as the band’s earlier works.

Highlights: Stacked Actors, Breakout, Learn To Fly, Generator, Aurora, Live-In Skin, Headwires, and M.I.A.

03. WASTING LIGHT

This album was a return to form for the band, with more energy and excitement than their previous few albums. The album was also produced by Butch Vig, who had worked with Nirvana on Nevermind, and it has a similar raw energy and sound.

Highlights: Bridge Burning, Rope, Dear Rosemary, White Limo, Arlandria, Back & Forth, A Matter Of Time, Miss The Misery, and Walk.

02. FOO FIGHTERS

The band’s debut album is still considered by many to be their best. It features some of their most iconic tracks, including Big Me and This Is A Call. The album is a perfect mix of punk energy and pop hooks, and it showcased the Grohl’s incredible songwriting skills.

Highlights: No skipping here.

01. THE COLOUR AND THE SHAPE

This album is considered by many to be the band’s masterpiece. It features some of their most iconic tracks, including Everlong and My Hero. The album is a perfect mix of raw energy and melodic hooks, and it cemented the band’s place in rock history.

Highlights: Repeat it over and over again.
