9 o’Clock Nasty – Mood Is Low

After many outstanding singles released this year, such as Too Cool, Low Fat Jesus, Disco Investors, The Worms, and Gastronaut, 9 o’Clock Nasty are back with another exceptional single that will unquestionably appeal to all garage rock fans. Mood Is Low is one of their heavier tracks this year that shines with all the vital elements of the beforementioned genre. However, these profoundly creative folks fully stacked their new single with some of the finest properties borrowed from other complementary styles such as garage punk, punk rock, and alternative. With sonic ingredients like these, Mood Is Low shines with a raw, abrasive, relentlessly energetic ambiance that will unquestionably appeal to even the pickiest fans of underground music. 9 o’Clock Nasty thought about song structure a lot, so these additional elements serve more as enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details, while the primary sonic direction remains intact.

Mood Is Low pays homage to classic garage rock but simultaneously resonates with innovative, modern, brilliant ideas distilled into catchy, dirty, powerful riffs. You’ll notice how the guitar plays a significant role in shaping a catchy ambiance where semi-distorted, almost post-punkish chord progressions and riffs perfectly pair with equally detailed warm-sounding basslines. The bass guitar unquestionably provides more density and clarity to the guitars, but it also serves as a binding element between mentioned instrument and flawlessly performed rhythmic sequences built upon complex beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Still, you’ll notice how the outstanding lead vocal performance, back vocals, and singalongs are the centerpieces of Mood Is Low, and this song wouldn’t sound the same without these vocal arrangements. 9 o’Clock Nasty never cease to amaze with their exceptional music, and Mood Is Low is more than rock-solid proof how garage rock can still sound powerful, energetic, exciting, and entertaining. You should check out this number as soon as possible. The single is available on all streaming services.
