Signal Static – Under The Skin

There’s no doubt this band will be right up your alley. With the critically acclaimed debut full-length called Start Transmission and a couple of singles such as Blinding Lights and Objects Of Affection, Canadian trio Signal Static has everything you ever needed from a contemporary grunge band, and now they’re back with another fine piece of sonic artistry. Under The Skin is their first single this year that showcases what happens when brilliant ideas, experience, and exceptional musicianship collide into a colossal slab of mesmerizing noise. Soundwise, Signal Static offer their recognizable sonic maneuvers presented through their previous works, but Under The Skin also resonates with many innovations in songwriting, composing, and production. Besides the fundamentals of modern grunge, you’ll notice how these skillful musicians incorporated alternative rock, hard rock, stoner rock, and just a subtle touch of metal. All these additional elements serve as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details that uplift Under The Skin on an entirely new level.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice those heavy riffs that define the initial melody of the song, besides the flawlessly performed lead vocal harmonies. The guitar calms down during the verse but returns with even more delicate sonic maneuvers during the pre-chorus and chorus. The equally bearable bass guitar delivers powerful, complex, massive low-end tones throughout the composition. I adore how the sound engineer/producer thought about this instrument while producing the song. Still, Under The Skin wouldn’t sound so profoundly dynamic without well-accentuated beats, breaks, drum fills, and other percussive acrobatics delivered by the experienced drummer. The entire band operates like a singular organism, and it’s more than hearable how they complement each other throughout this number. They unquestionably thought about even the tiniest details, and the effort paid off in a mesmerizing track worth repeating over and over again. Modern grunge doesn’t get better than this. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
