Connecticut band Cinema Stare have shared their new single “Remember.” The song really leans into the “pop” part of pop-punk with vivacious melodies and a sing-along chorus from vocalist Quinn. It’s the second single from their upcoming debut album The Things I Don’t Need out May 19th on Static Era Records. The accompanying video for the song find the band giving a dynamic performance as colorful lyrics pop into view, and it can be watched here.
Speaking on the track, guitarist Jason Moriarty stated: “Musically, this song is a love letter to the music that was on the radio and TV when I was growing up. It’s a tip of the hat to both the ubiquitous “pogo” arena pop-punk jams of the early 2000’s and the guitar-lead production of TRL charting bangers by Jessica Simpson, Jojo, and Jesse McCartney. It’s honestly got hallmarks of everything I love about pop music, and it’s one of my favorite songs on the album.”
Meeting through the local scene in the summer of 2019, Cinema Stare fully came together in March of 2021. Writing over the course of a year, it allowed the band to meticulously figure out arrangements for the songs giving them extra depth when heading into production. The Things I Don’t Need was produced by the band with assistance from Chris Teti (who also engineered and mixed) at Silver Bullet Studios and mastered by Adam Cichocki at Timber Studios. The songs serve as a release for past emotions and experiences, but still posses a sense of light-heartedness that comes with a pop-punk record. It’s poppy, passionate, and powerful. The band pulls influence from acts like Jimmy Eat World and The Starting Line, and also bands like Peach Pit and The Muffs. On The Things I Don’t Need, Cinema Stare have created a bouncy and heartfelt record to soundtrack your Spring.
The Things I Don’t Need is available on vinyl for preorder now through Static Era Records. Cinema Stare will head on tour with Indiana emo band Leisure Hour in late May, full dates below.
