The Margaret Hooligans – Witch On The Corner

The Margaret Hooligans recently released Witch On The Corner, the fourth single that announces their highly anticipated third full-length album, Saturday Night In Bartertown. It carries the fundamentals of a blues sound, so admirers of this particular genre should pay their utmost attention. However, The Margaret Hooligans combined several complementary music genres to depict such luxurious sonic imagery that goes beyond traditional blues music. You’ll stumble upon some elements of classic rock, garage rock, psych-rock, rock ‘n’ roll, or any other subgenres of rock along the way. Some readers might think that Witch On The Corner is just another blues rock song, but that’s not the case. This track bursts with a unique ambiance rarely seen on the scene nowadays.

Instead of writing and composing another traditional blues track, The Margaret Hooligans implemented lo-fi aesthetics over the blues base. Therefore, that particular rawness, abrasiveness, and fuzziness uplifts this track on an entirely new level. You’ll notice how the garage and psych-rock aesthetics resonate in the mix through heavily distorted, cleverly assembled chord progressions and riffs. The band also incorporated classic blues guitar licks, enhancements, accentuations, and other sonic maneuvers that decorated these chord progressions even more. Of course, nothing would sound so good without additional layers of slide guitar and harmonica, but these elements are hearable only at the particular segments. The Margaret Hoolingans also thought about the rhythm section, and you’ll notice how the duo included delicate beats, breaks, and fills garnished with several different time signatures. All these orchestrations contribute to the mesmerizing ambiance, but Witch On The Corner shines even brighter because of the exceptional vocal harmonies. The lead vocalist knows how to deliver that bluesy emotion, and her tremendous performance perfectly matches the lo-fi sound achieved by the beforementioned instruments. The Margaret Hooligans improved and revitalized blues with Witch On The Corner, and you should check out this song as soon as possible. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
