Today we have some flawlessly executed post-rock music for your listening pleasure. Perhaps Joyful Forfeit is a new solo project coming from Lancaster, but it shines bright with an outstanding quality rarely seen or heard in works by the artists who roam the scene for even decades. Clawing At The Back Of Your Eyes will be a treat for anyone even remotely into post-rock because Joyful Forfeit combines several complementary music genres to achieve such a catchy, hypnotic, and cathartic sound. The artist unquestionably relies upon the fundamentals of the mentioned genre, but you’ll notice how he combined some of the finest properties of shoegaze, dream pop, emo, indie, and cinematic ambient in such a genuine way.
Clawing At The Back Of Your Eyes carries a calm ambiance achieved by implementing thoughtfully assembled, arpeggiated chord progressions and vividly hearable warm-sounding basslines. You’ll also notice a thick layer of reverby melodic leads that define the sonic direction of this mesmerizing composition. Still, the high-pitched vocal harmonies are a centerpiece of Clawing At The Back Of Your Eyes, and without these singing segments, this song wouldn’t sound the same. Of course, nothing would resonate with sheer dynamics and power without skillfully arranged rhythmic sequences built upon half-time and moderate beats, catchy accentuations, fills, and other percussive acrobatics that define only the best indie songs. Joyful Forfeit put a lot of time and ideas into a debut single, and the effort paid off in a fine piece of sonic artistry that will appeal to anyone into detailed post-rock music with a touch of shoegaze and dream pop. Clawing At The Back Of Your Eyes is available on all streaming platforms.
