Shonan Released New Album; Watch Video For Rocky Roberts

Kriminals! is the second studio album by the punk rock band from Parma Shonan, released on October 15th on all the main streaming and download platforms. The new work was   anticipated by the singles Rocky Roberts and Suburban Hayez, available in streaming and on YouTube, with official videos.

The album, characterized by a powerful and explosive sound, comes out 2 years after the last single Fall From Grace. The songs talk about the difficulty of finding someone willing to listen seriously, how we are often left alone, abandoned and sabotaged, and the difficulty of being able to trust people, and how this affects relationships between people.

“We worked intensely on these songs for a couple of years, trying to come up with everything that  could be useful. The pandemic canceled the first recordings initially set for April 2020, so at the first  reopening we booked 7 days of studio in Milan; the mixer, the microphones, our instruments and the  4 streets next to the studio became our home, our bed and everything we saw for a week, together  with our producers and some beer in the evening, after having played and recorded. Locking  ourselves in the studio in that brief interlude of serenity from all the mess that was going on was our  response to the first 3 months of the lockdown, and the best way to process all the questionable  personal experiences we had lived in recent times ” says Arcu, singer and guitarist.

Kriminals! is released on the label Rocketman Records and was entirely recorded and mixed in 6 days at the Real-Sound Studio in Milan, under the production of Ettore “Ette” Gilardoni. The album is distributed by Believe, and is also available on Digipak CD at the label’s online store. The album cover and artwork were created with the art designer Miguel Velasquez, and show a skate park surrounded by a sinister and disturbing atmosphere, where red clouds move nervously between the high voltage pylons in the background. The artwork was created in collaboration with the art designer Miguel Velasquez.

Rocky Roberts is a song about complicated relationships: those relationships full of contradictions, of positive and negative feelings; it’s about conflicting emotions that cling to memories and moments once relationships end. It’s about love and war, unlikely times, and how great it would be to just ask and know how these things work. VIDEO: The main theme of the video is the alternation of lights and shadows: in the song, in its themes, in the Shonan themselves and in their music. The dark and sinister atmosphere leaves room for moments of light and clarity, to gradually create a fast alternation of these two moods, of the song and emotions. The video was shot in Parma by Samuel Vivani

Shonan were born in Parma, in a room several meters underground, in February 2011. In a short time they write enough music to be able to afford, between visits by the local police, to get out of that room and start playing concerts. The sound is a clash between punk and hard rock, the lyrics dramatically autobiographical, and the desire to be heard makes the concerts a burst of energy with high interaction with the audience.

After the release of Farewells & Pillows and the two singles Uh, Sha La La La! and Fall From Grace, the trio undertakes a long series of concerts throughout Italy, and in the meantime concentrates on writing the second album, influenced in themes and sound by all the questionable experiences in the meantime. The album is titled Kriminals!, released on October 15th 2021 and marks a new and eagerly awaited chapter in the history of the band.
