Dumb Share Video For Excuse Me?

Vancouver’s Dumb are today sharing their new cut, “Excuse Me?” which comes as the second to be lifted from the new album, Pray 4 Tomorrow which was announced in August with the Stereogum, Under the Radar and Exclaim-tipped single, “Pull Me Up”. The album, out November 11 via Mint Records (Tough Age, Heaven For Real) will follow their acclaimed 2019 release, Club Nites which was celebrated by DIY, Paste, Stereogum, Exclaim and more.

“Excuse Me?”, which arrives with a video shot on tour by J Quincy Arthur, finds a Beach Boys-inspired melody placed gently atop the drop-tuned dissonance of Franco Rossino and Nick Short’s dueling guitars which ping-pong back-and-forth throughout the track. It’s another fine example of the band’s evident sonic development on Pray 4 Tomorrow which finds the quartet zig-zagging between genres and stylistics; their double a-side standalone, “Dropout / Sleep Like a Baby” demonstrated a sound lifted from the ska-inflected sounds of The Specials and Madness whereas “Pull Me Up” shifted towards a post-punk aesthetic.

Speaking about the track, the band says: “This is a drop-tuned chugga chugga choo choo where the unforgiving distorted guitars are interlaced by syncopated rhythms and group vocals. The band is politely asking their audience to excuse their frantic and messy vibe. “If I had to do it low-key, then what good would living do me?” why should DUMB tone down their neuroticisms? The title and relentlessness of “Excuse Me” is a nod to our friends in Pardoner (SF).”

Dumb had a classic start as a DIY outfit back in 2015, playing their first shows in the dining room of a tear-down in east Vancouver. The four band members, Rossino, Short, Shelby Vredik and Pipe Morelli, were all part of a larger group of friends that jammed together. The new record comes self-recorded at Choms, a studio co-owned by Nick Short and Franco Rossino. Dumb has toured extensively in North America and Europe, played with Wolf Parade and Dilly Dally, and are known for their catchy punk rhythms, squealing guitar feedback, and strongly spoken lyrics.
