Deep End – Isolated Actions 7″ (Various Labels)

Whoa! Nothing matches some proper throwback to nineties skatepunk music. It reminds me of the good old days when the music was sincere, dynamic, entertaining, and the times were more fun than nowadays. Deep End is a relatively new group that explores the golden nineties skate punk era, but with a sophisticated touch of modern technicalities that define the contemporary skate punk scene. The group recently introduced a new 7″ EP named Isolated Actions, which follows a previously released self-titled EP. Two years have passed since they released their self-titled material and it seems that Deep End are coming back better than ever. This material will be right up your alley if you’re profoundly into perfectly executed skate punk music.

I assume that Deep End used this situation with quarantine to write, compose, assemble and record these tunes, and they’ve done tremendous work with it. Isolated Actions carries four brand new numbers, heavily influenced by the nineties skate punk sound. Nevertheless, Deep End are wisely incorporating some modern melodies, harmonies, and other sonic delicacies to enhance the foundations based upon nineties skate punk sound. The group doesn’t escape from moderate melodic punk rock and pop-punk music either. Still, Deep End covers these vividly hearable elements with robust layers of distortion, so the overall sound is still heavy and compact. The band continuously levitates between fast-paced and more moderate rhythmic structures, while the guitars are delivering various melodies and harmonies that appeal to the beats.

The guitars are constantly dueling for dominance through ear-appealing leads on one and robust chord progressions on the other side. They are delivering generous servings of melodies through thoughtfully constructed themes, which are supported by warm-sounding basslines. These basslines contribute to the immense heaviness of this material, while the excellent drumming punches from beneath through various rhythmic segments, powerful accentuations, and energetic drum fills. The lead vocals are delivering another dosage of melodies, but there are also flawlessly performed singalongs implemented in all the right spots. Deep End thought about each aspect of their second material, and to be honest, I cannot find anything wrong with this EP. Quite the contrary, Isolated Actions appears as a raging, energetic, ear-appealing material that will appeal even to the pickiest fans of skate punk sound.

Isolated Actions come in both physical and digital formats. Head over to Fast Decade Records, Thug Free Records, Evil Corporation, Keep It A Secret Records, Intersphere Records for more detailed information about ordering.
