The contemporary music scene offers so many brilliant groups that seek the attention of the broader auditorium, but somehow most of them remain unheard and never gain well-deserved recognition. It seems like this quarantine caused by the pandemic gave a lot of spare time to musicians to finish their recordings, but most of them released these albums at the same time. Therefore, some of these bands will never gain exposure to the broader auditorium. Luckily, some relatively new groups somehow managed to break the barrier and get to the crowd. I would like to introduce another incredible alternative rock band that caught my eye a couple of days ago. Blue Coffee is one of those groups that unquestionably demand your attention, and their debut In And Out is more than a good reason to give them a chance.

In And Out contains nine reasons why you should pay attention to Blue Coffee. This French group from Marseille explores several genres, but it seems that alternative rock dominantly floats above the rest. Besides alternative rock, you may also hear other subgenres of rock, such as nineties rock, hard rock, and rock’n’roll. Still, the way how Blue Coffee experiment with all these subgenres is what makes them unique. You can’t classify their sound in any particular genre. Quite the contrary, each composition contains the blend of two beforementioned subgenres or even more, depending on the mood and ambiance the group tries to achieve at the particular moment. However, it seems that the band feels the most comfortable while performing this very unique form of alternative rock music.

You can also notice how some of the prominent names in the game influenced their songwriting and composing. You may hear similarities with Radiohead, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, The Cure, Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Turin Brakes, Nick Drake, plus many others. Nevertheless, Blue Coffee uses these renowned bands/artists more as guidelines and keeps these orchestrations unique as much as possible. Blue Coffee lyrics showcase a poetic approach to life, love, loss, moods, moments, memories, and occasions. The group simultaneously explores the positive and negative sides of all these topics, with a sophisticated melancholic-nostalgic twist. You’ll fall in love with their semi-distorted/nearly clean chord progressions, warm-sounding basslines, and excellent drumming performance. Both lead and background vocals are showcasing a very sincere performance that goes perfectly with their melancholic/psychedelic approach to sound. In And Out is available on several streaming services such as Spotify, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, and YouTube.
