Damn, how good this band is! Square Shapes are coming from the state of Hawaii, USA and they’re delivering some quality skate punk alike greats of this genre used to do back in the nineties. After The Fact is their debut full-length album comprised of fifteen enormously good punk rock songs. The band previously published a great material called All Your Friends EP and this full length is such a good follow up to their previous recording. The band sounds tight with great melodic vocals which goes surprisingly good over fast skate punk riffs. Square Shapes figured out how to write non-monotonous two-minute songs which are packed with raw emotions, well-structured melodies, and some proper doses of rage at the same time. Beside of the melodic part of their music, Square Shapes possess some doses of old school hardcore punk in their music, so you can also expect some hard-hitting tunes on this material. Comparing to other bands, Square Shapes resembles the sound of some well-known punk rockers such as 98 Mute, Pennywise, Good Riddance, 88 Fingers Louie, No Use For A Name, Lagwagon, Belvedere, but these details are hearable throughout the album in a couple arrangements here and there, because the band keeps their own approach to the genre and they’re doing it that pretty well. The interesting part of this album is a recording process. The album has been recorded and produced in a grass hut by Dan Precision of 88 Fingers Louie and later has been mixed and mastered at his Bomb Shelter Studios in Chicago, IL, so there’s no wonder why this album sounds so good. The visual part is also done pretty good and it depicts a skeleton surfing under the waves. After The Fact has been published by People Of Punk Rock and it’s available as a CD and digital release at labels website and Bandcamp page.
