Boston’s emo quintet Bearers Bicycle Inn mark a new chapter with their single “Longsword (4th Place),” out today. It’s the band’s first release since 2022’s EP Baldr the Beautiful is Dead, is Dead and their first recorded as a five-piece, bringing fresh dynamics to their sound.

The single introduces returning guitarist Dylan Ilkowitz and debuts new members Gilmar Perez (lead guitar) and Josh Giaquinto (drums). With guest vocals from Ryan O’Rourke (Innerlove.), “Longsword (4th Place)” expands Bicycle Inn’s melancholic yet melodic emo foundation.

“Longsword is about the struggle of mundanity, doing just enough, scraping by, and realizing it’s unsustainable,” the band explains. “You’ve become the ‘Saint of the Rut,’ a perfect representation of stagnancy.”

Produced by Gary Cioni (Soundacres Studio), the single balances heaviness with emotional clarity, echoing the band’s influences while pointing forward. Since forming in 2016, Bicycle Inn has shared stages with acts like Mike Kinsella (Owen), Crime in Stereo, and The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die. Their heartfelt songwriting continues to resonate in the evolving emo landscape.
