Dream School Dropout emerges as a bold new collaboration, uniting Portland’s psychedelic dream rock veterans King Black Acid with French musician/producer Birdie Moon and Icelandic artist Daisy Rae Swann. Their debut single, “Hurricane,” is a lushly orchestrated work that reflects intimacy and grandeur. Born out of long-distance collaboration, the trio exchanged sound files across continents while bonding over vintage analog instruments, lo-fi guitars, and rare synthesizers. The result is a sound that fuses cinematic 80s dream pop with the soulful groove of 70s rhythm and blues, wrapped in a psychedelic haze that feels both nostalgic and forward-looking. Mixed by 10-time Grammy-winning producer Darrell Thorp—renowned for his work with Radiohead, Beck, and Paul McCartney, “Hurricane” carries both the shimmer of dream pop and the gravitas of rock craftsmanship. It is not just a debut, but a sweeping introduction: an atmospheric storm of sound, memory, and imagination.
