“The Mary Jane”, an alternative rock band from Riga, Latvia, that has been active in the Latvian alternative music scene for nearly three decades, navigating through periods of evolution, dissolution, and revival, is back again unveiling the first single, “Get Me (Out Of Time),” from their upcoming album titled “RELIVE.”
The new album is a remixed version of the band’s debut album, “Lost Innocence Vast Ego,” which was originally released 20 years ago and garnered a nomination for Best Rock Album at the Latvian Annual Music Awards.
The “RELIVE” album represents a significant effort by the band to present a fresh take on their earlier work, blending contemporary sound with a sentiment of a classic alternative rock’s era. “We didn’t want to simply repackage a 20-year-old product, and say – hey, let’s listen to our old stuff !” the band stated. “Rather, we aimed to shake things up and offer our supporters, along with new listeners and rock enthusiasts, a revitalized remix of the album’s original tracks, reflecting how we envisioned it when we first created it.”
While the original album was well-received, the band emphasizes that it was marked by compromises due to technical and financial limitations at the time. Recent advancements in recording technology and the rediscovery of multi-track backups have made it possible for the band to revisit and remix their original recordings. The project has been driven by the band’s vocalist and bass player, Janis Grants, alongside the album’s original producer, Janis “Gonza” Kalnins, both of whom are now involved in the project “Next To Zero.”
The first single from the new album is “Get Me (Out Of Time)”, which, lyrically, might come off as unconventional for a rock song, for it explores the theme of reading books as a sort of a gateway to different dimensions and an out-of-time sensation, with the band humorously noting, “If rock music is a symbol of freedom, reading is rock too!” This track sets the stage for the complete album, which embodies a reimagined sound that aligns more closely with the band’s original artistic vision.
“RELIVE” serves not only as a reflection of the past but also as an invitation to experience the band’s evolving sound. “What you hear in this new release is a restored, remixed, revised, and remastered version of our debut album. We decided to give it a new name, with a little pun intended, and we encourage everyone to not just listen but to truly RELIVE it.”
Stay tuned for more updates and the full release of “RELIVE,” paving the way for a refreshing experience for fans old and new.
